Ed Scott is a South African custom knifemaker who himself hunts and makes custom knives for professional hunters. When using a knife repeatedly for the same type of cutting jobs it quickly becomes apparent what features work best. Ed took his own ideas, added to the suggestions he had from his fellow hunters, pouring them into a knife design catering specifically to the hunter. Spyderco loved the design and conducted its own testing on a good sized Muley taken one cold, fall morning near our Golden facility. What we discovered was Ed's design worked and worked incredibly well. So we released two versions of Ed's design he calls the Impala.
