CLIPIT® is a term created by Spyderco® to describe our extraordinary folding knives. In 1981, we were the first company to add a pocket clip and a manual one-hand-opening feature to a lock-blade pocketknife. In doing so, we revolutionized the cutlery industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife.
The clip of a CLIPIT knife allows it to be carried conveniently at the top of the pocket where it is instantly accessible and away from other pocket contents. Our original models were configured for only one carry position—either right or left-side, tip-down carry. Over the years, however, CLIPIT designs have evolved to offer two, three, or four mounting positions, providing a choice of carry configurations to meet every need and preference.
Our one-hand-opening feature—Spyderco’s Trademark Round Hole™—provides a solid purchase that allows the thumb to pivot the blade swiftly and positively into the open position. Depending upon your skill level, the Trademark Round Hole also supports other one-handed opening options and, unlike thumb studs and discs, does not protrude from the blade to snag during use.
Pocket clips and manual one-hand-opening features are commonplace on folding knives these days. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Spyderco’s CLIPIT knives were the first to set the standard and remain among the finest factory-made knives available today.
