Re: Kitchen knives and salt steels just curious
We just don't see many kitchen knives in newer high-performing steels. People ARE willing to spend a lot on kitchen knives... but the high-end stuff is typically Japanese-made and driven by a culture of tradition. I'm surprised there isn't at least more interest on the Spyderco forum in kitchen kni...

Stainless Steel Meadowlark -- How Thick?
I'm looking for scale options for my Hawkbill Meadowlark. The titanium scales are great, but too thin for heavier work. Are the Stainless Steel scales much thicker (at least similar to FRN)? I can't find thickness measurements anywhere.

Re: Man down
Sorry for you loss. And I totally agree the replacement cost vs performance ratio makes these almost unbeatable. My hawbill is a dedicated gardening knife. Just wish it came in orange FRN so it didn't get lost in the dirt so often. Agreed, orange scales would make the Byrd Hawkbill and even better ...

Poll: Can you middle finger flick a Native 5?
I love my black-coated Rex-45 Native 5 and can spydie flick it. I find it more secure, since it allows me to grasp the scales between my thumb and forefinger. It fails maybe 10-20% of the time, but my self esteem can take the hit... (flick of the wrist solves the problem) My main purpose in asking t...

Re: Hawkbill Caribbean
I just wish the serrated sheepsfoot version was angled similar to the Atlantic Salt or Byrd Rescue. This angle provides a subtle hawbill effect, which is really helpful for cutting rope or vegetation (landscaping, gardening, etc.). But the angle doesn't work well with the finger choil on these model...

Why 1095 for Fixed Blades?
I've been looking into fixed blade options and found that carbon steel was still very common. That seems odd when we have inexpensive stainless steels that are equally tough and easy to maintain (some online sources suggest 14c28n is significantly tougher than 1095). I know carbon steel can have bet...

Re: Upcoming: GP Knives Native 5 LW DLC Rex 45 white FRN exclusive
Are there aftermarket scales for the native 5 lw? Do the scales swap between other native 5 lw? I actually just emailed Flytanium today, asking them to make scales for the Native 5 (info@flytaniumco.com). Their titanium scales turn the lil' Native into an amazing knife. There don't seem to be any a...

Re: Upcoming: GP Knives Native 5 LW DLC Rex 45 white FRN exclusive
Any speculation on which future models GP Knives will be visiting with their white-on-Rex exclusives? I'd love a lil' Native, or maybe Sage.

Re: Regrind Questions (Native 5, Lil Native)
I just picked up a very coarse 80 grit stone, and I always wanted to try my lil native in that toothy edge finish. The cutting edge is small, and I dont use mine for any kinds of rigorous type of cutting. I could in theory get away with putting a zero grind, my mild usage can handle that. But for m...

I wish they would release the satin and DLC simultaneously. I would have waited for the Satin, if I knew it was coming out.

Regrind Questions (Native 5, Lil Native)
Has anyone tried a regrind on the lil' Native? If so, how thin? This would be for my m4 lil' Native... The geometry isn't awful, but with the short length it tends to slip out of material. I'm also considering a regrind on my rex 45 Native 5, just to push the envelope with performance (I understand ...

Re: Pakkawood Native 5??
I'd be interested. It's surprising there aren't any aftermarket scale options for the Native. Even the lil' Native has a number of nice options (titanium turned it into my favorite edc).

Re: Are We Ready Yet!!?? For A Newer/Better Hawkbill?
My understanding was that Spyderco is working on a new Spyderhawk, possibly in Magnacut... here's hoping! I'm interested in this for gardening, so I really want a handle that is NOT green. I would definitely be interested in a larger serrated fixed blade as well. Sheepsfoot knives also work well for...

Re: RIT dye experiences?
OK, if you want my two cents? Don't use Dyemore. It continues to bleed color over time. They sell a fixative for it but it doesn't work very well on solid items -- it's intended for clothing dyeing, and I am sure it works just fine for that, but when it comes to fixing dye that's penetrated below t...

Re: LC200N Dragonfly
I just hope the hawkbills don't end up green. This applies for all of the Salt Hawkbills... they're too good for gardening and agricultural use to be green! I'd prefer orange, yellow or another bright color not commonly found in nature.

Just ordered one... Will these scales take Rit Dye? (I'm thinking something like royal blue.)
I hope they release a lil' Native exclusive in Rex 45!
