Just doing my civic duty to get this worthless troll thread closed. This type of trolling from you is not usually tolerated on this forum.

Yikes fella's! I hope we're calmed down a bit today. Can't be having two of our daily contributors going at it like that!

I'll just say that if this worked the way the thread makers intended, it would be a very valuable tool to keep others in the loop. I could even see a sub forum just for these kinds of posts so they don't clog up the general chat and I think that would also help to curb the general chitchat in these kinds of threads. I have scored several knives by following threads, and I've also gotten false alarm notifications from those threads that ended up just being conversation. It's frustrating when you're hoping to get that "in stock here" notification but it's also not worth anyone bickering over either stance on the issue. We could all collectively make it work or make it not.

It’s about common courtesy. If there is a dedicated discussion thread and a dedicated alert thread then it would stand to reason that one would save the discussion for the appropriate thread.

The folks who don’t get it probably don’t subscribe to the alert threads so they don’t realize that those of us who do get blasted with emails.

It is the internet and many folks are impulsive with a short attention span. I’m not saying they are like that in real life but that is what our virtual life through our devices has become. For this reason I assume many folks don’t realize that they are even doing it so a reminder isn’t out of line. It should be done politely.

Saying that the folks “policing” the thread are guilty of the same thing that they are complaining about is some low effort whataboutism. Please don’t gaslight folks into thinking that their attempts to keep a thread on track is somehow a part of the problem.

Also, I’m with David. A separate subforum for alerts would solve this but then we are asking for more from Kristi/Spyderco on an already free forum.

It's not trolling, it's me expressing my view on the way some choose to interact here. They try to demand others to follow rules they themselves don't even follow, when they have no more authority here than our newest member. Dunno why that bothers you so much, but good luck on your justice quest.

"Alert"-ing, deal-spotting, etc. is frowned upon on another of the largest internet knife forums. I have always deeply appreciated the Spyderco Forum for its general willingness to foster knife enthusiasts in their endeavors to find & buy knives. I'd hate to see that jeopardized in any way by silly arguments over how knife enthusiasts should or shouldn't be helping each other find & buy knives..

Y'all please be nice to each other.

It's easy enough to not read threads one doesn't care about.

How do you actual set up an email alert to a specific thread?

Edit… I found the settings in my profile

Good luck with the alerts. So many off-topic posts kill the usefulness, especially with some actively working to subvert the process.

some of the responses to this thread are far more disappointing than the thread itself. i hope you all are good. it's time to hug it out and be friends again.

Three weeks after the thread had properly slid out into a grave, here comes the the peanut gallery to make sure it stays relevant. Unnecessary threads call for unnecessary posts apparently. :eye-roll
