I need, need need one of these when they come out! I've found that some of my favorite Spydercos are the FRN, linerless versions of bigger models. For example, the Stretch 2 XL LW. I want long blades and light weight!

Stretch XL lwt is linerless . This looks like nice step forward. SE sounds interesting Dave , especially a Salt version.

Oh wow I missed that. I wonder how much weight the blade might lose by not having a thumb ramp? It would be really interesting to take both knives apart and weigh the handles and blades separately and see where the biggest weight difference is at.

Even if it's a typo, and weighs somewhere around an ounce more, I still want one.

*I could be wrong,* but it looks like this could be a pocket shredder. The flat logo on the FRN doesn't appear to reach to where the pocket clip presses into the handle scale. And it also appears that the clip pressure spot would be off of the flat logo if it were positioned for tip-down carry.

The linerless Para 3 LW is 2.4 oz. The Benchmade Bugout with its 2.3 mm thick stock, 3.2" blade and minimalistic liners is 1.85 oz. It would certainly be an impressive feat if that figure is accurate, but it's not passing the sniff test for me. Either way I am very interested in this knife.

You could be possibly on to something there . The Chief in G10 seems so well balanced for me I would really like to experience one of these in hand . Nice though having a lwt version for both models . Dan

The G10 version is listed at 3.9oz. Maybe they really trimmed the weight down in the FRN mold, making it thinner where strength isn't needed or something.

I wish they had taken the opportunity to mold in more pronounced contouring/chamfering, rather than staying faithful to the G-10 handle shape. That's one of the advantages of FRN, right? (Could be I'm misinterpreting what the pics show...)

In any case this one won't be for me, since the Stretch 2 XL already exists. Still, I'm excited for the rest of y'all! Can't wait to read your impressions.

EDIT [CORRECTED]: just did the calculations on my "ratio" spreadsheet, and this new LW Native has extremely good ratios of blade length to weight, as well as edge length to weight. The LW Chief is certain to become a preferred backpacking knife! Thank you Spyderco!!

I don't see how it can be 1.9oz. The Salt 2 weighs that much. It doesn't have to to be great though.

I just did the calculations on my "ratio" spreadsheet, and this new LW Native (if 1.9 oz is accurate) positively blows other knives out of the water with its extreme ratio of blade length to weight, as well as edge length to weight. No other ratios even come close. The LW Chief is certain to become a preferred backpacking knife! Thank you Spyderco!!

Man, I still want a G-10 Native Chief, but if this thing is as light as my Bugout I think I'll need to get a LW as well.

I have two G10 Chief variations and the Lightweight version will definitely be a must have . I look forward comparing to my Stretch XL models . Dan

The G10 Native Chief weighs 110g. I'm guessing this LW should be closer to 90g ?

Because 54g (!!!) for a knife this size indeed sounds incredible and implausible. (And I'd order one right away )
