Why no Manix 2 in 204P?

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

Why has there not been a Manix 2 in 204P (or M390)?

I think this would be an outstanding combination. Though I prefer the back lock, I'd be in for any version in this steel.

I would get this. I think it would also be very nice if they would release a PM2 in M390, 204P or 20CV that's not just a exclusive

This is a great steel and the Manix platform just seems to be made for it.

This idea keeps popping up all the time. Sometimes it is M390, or 20CV. CTS-204P is about the same, and Spyderco has a good relationship with the maker, I believe.

I think that would be a great steel for the manix 2 backlock's first sprint

I'd love to see any of the 204p/20cv/m390 family in a Manix 2.

Perhaps all of those folks requesting M390 will get behind this.

My first reaction was that I have the same question about Native, than I asked myself a question:"What 204P/M390 can deliver me that S110V can not?"
I used to have ZT in this steel and didn't find it better than S90V or S110V in any area.
What are your thoughts?

I have found 204P easier to sharpen than S110V. This is using my 302 Benchstones as well as my 701 profiles. I only have one Para 2 that I have kept after all these years, the green / 204P version. I would love a Manix 2 in this color/steel combination. Even a green FRCP lightweight would be awesome.

Everything in 204P, please. It's such a well balanced steel, I don't know why we don't see more of it.

I reprofiled my ZT0562 CF (ZT variant of slicer  ) after I bought it. It took me couple hours on 100 grit WE stones :( Possibly edge was too thick to begin with.

Is 204p that good? All my m390 has been chippy and hasn't performed all that better than s30v based on what I've noticed.

Here is my take on M390.

I think M390 is a pretty well balanced steel. It holds a nice edge for quite a while, not as long as S90V or S110V. It sharpens about as easy as S30V.

I am not certain, as he does not say. However, he is pretty knowledgeable...more so than I am.
