Carbon fiber addiction

#1

Post by MMGRenovations »

I remember I didn't like carbon fiber too much. Over time my tastes have changed and I find it's actually my favorite material. I really like the peel ply carbon fiber Spyderco uses. I really like how light it makes a knife. Now it seems like if a knife has carbon fiber I almost have to buy it.

Anyone else on this boat?

I also love Spyderco’s CF peel ply. Makes the knife look really elegant and classy. I have the Sage 5 and it’s the perfect gentleman’s folder.

Couldn’t agree more!! Love CF!
I just unboxed this bad boy! I fell in love with the orange G10 version......but CF was available and I couldn’t resist! It has a very different texture, feels great!

I don't agree. I own probably 20 or so, but only because the other material combinations weren't available with G-10.

I really like the peel-ply cf. The other varieties...not so much.

I also need the right steel along with the CF, but I really have come to enjoy peel ply CF. I really like how it feels and it just adds a little extra special touch to a knife.

I like everything. Cf peel ply is newest to me and I do love it. I don't really know if I actually prefer full cf to spydercos peel ply. Atm I feel I need more color in my collection.

Peel ply is usually solid CF unless it's from Taichung where they use a lot of CF/G10 laminate. The Military 52100 and Yojimbo 2 S90V for example are solid CF with a peel ply finish. The peel ply is referring to the texture, not the construction.

I'd buy a Military with fluted CF scales in any steel. Literally if they made a tin foil blade I'd buy one just for the scales lol.

Good to know. The sliverax is my first cf peep ply knife, so I wasn't aware.

As far as I know, the Sliverax does not have peel ply CF. It's just plain old CF/G10 laminate.

Yep, it is yet another type of CF finish. It's kind of between peel ply and your standard smooth CF. Peel ply is pretty similar in feel to nice new crisp G10, maybe a bit more aggressive even. Underneath the peel ply top finish you can still see the typical CF weave underneath. It's awesome.

I don't have any peel ply cf yet. May just have to pick up a Para 3 52100 so I can experience the steel and the scale material.
