Delica ZDP is here!

#1

Post by STR »

I just got a bunch of knives in the mail this morning. Had to track the mail man down after he came early when I was in the shop. I about freaked when I saw that attempted delivery notice. Being a three day weekend I was not about to let what was there sit all weekend keeping me up nights! So, I hopped in the car and tracked his sorry behind down baby!

Got me two of the new Delica ZDP189 knives. While I can't say the Delica has ever been my all time favorite Spyderco this one is hard not to love. The blade is one of the sharpest out of the box since the ZDP CJ and the blue color is really pleasing as well. Much better than the Mauve color the CJ debuted in. This one is made so well too even if the scales do mold around the liners making tweaking more difficult. At least it has steel liners taking this FRN folder into hand me down territory.

Anyway these things are everything we had hoped for. Super size difference in the handle compared to the old Delica. These new ones are much better for big hands and the new liners provide a great heft to them they lacked before. The pocket clips are an improvement also. Nice paddle swell on the end too.

You guys are gonna love these when you get your hands on them. I know I do.

Yep. The Spydie on the blade is black. Didn't show up great in the scans.

One of these ZDP Delicas I got today will be clad in 1/8" thick titanium like I did that Manix here in the next few days. I'm also doing another Manix and an 80mm Manix in the same.

OT ON: To my deeply regret I see on the other thread (Wayne Goddar and Delica - pictures) the :spyder: is golden. Did I already say I dislike the golden one :(

Sorry for writeing this in your thread, but i really have this feeling. OT OFF

Edit: the :spyder: is black - sorry for the confusion!

I own a Calypso Jr. Burgundy with golden :spyder: and if you "only touch it with your finger" it isn't longer golden

Thank you, Peter! Not having Calypso Jr. doesn't feel as bad as before :)

I seem to remember Sal saying a while back that the gold :spyder: was gone. I think the ones in those other pictures look gold because of the way the light is shining across them :D

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

That's really sweet, STR! Thanks for sharing the pics with us. The Delica has never been my favorite knife either, so I will be waiting on the ZDP Caly myself.

What kinds of mods do you have in mind for this one?
