Meerkat = Navigator?

#1

Post by Nifty_Nives »

Has anyone ever noticed how similar the two knives are? the only difference is the locking mechanism, and the scales.

Did spyderco just redesign the Navigator to have a new locking style?

The Meerkat used the Navigator pattern. We've made quite a few variations of the Navigator pattern over the years. It's an interesting Little Big Knife pattern.

Might be an interesting pattern for a club knife?

I still miss my old G-10 Navigator, but it's in good hands with my brother-in-law. I've given away at least 4 of the Almite Navigators, including one to my own mother and it has served her very well. I do have a Navigator 2 and I like the grind better than the old ones, but I do miss the unlined G-10 handle on it.

I'd like to see a G-10 Navigator 2 with the thread inserts like the lightweight Calypso Jr. That might be the perfect LBK.

The navigator pattern is my favorite for a small knife. I would love for a G-10 version to make a re-appearance.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

The Navigator is one of my favorites.

I would be in for some variations.

Another Navigator would be fantastic. I have an almite version and think the handle shape is great. I think it fills the hand better than the iconic dragonfly. Im in for one - G10, CF, whatever.

re: OP - as mentioned, same handle profile, but the Meerkat is thicker scale to scale and fills the hand better than my Navigator. Of course, this also takes a bit more pocket space.

Put a Pride along side them and you'll also see a family resemblance.

I would assume by 'club knife' Sal means something like a scout group, or Rotary club or bridge club or gardening club etc... an association/ group/ forum etc.

I think it would make a fantastic club knife once badged or engraved as such. A G10 Navigator would be nice :p

Perhaps Sal was implying the the Navigator/Meerkat would make a nice 2010 Spyderco Forum knife... (Yes, I'm well aware of the recent translucent orange Manix 2 vote. :p )
