I sell boots. Red Wing work boots to be exact. And I enjoy it.

It's not like other retail jobs where customers will complain and ask for discounts if they have to buy the display model. Plumbers, welders, carpenters, concrete finishers, ironworkers, electricians, linemen, mechanics, and heavy junk operators are real people, and they don't get offended if it takes a little extra time to juggle fitting 4 customers at once.

And I can wear dirty boots to work too!

A very wise man once told me "Eat to live; don't live to eat." ...To my knowledge that's the only stupid thing he's ever said.

uhiforgot,

I worked as a plumber for about 8 years during and a little after college. I wore Redwing boots. I still have a pair that have lasted more than 10 years. Darn good boots.

Awesome job.

Darn good boots indeed. I've got a pair that I've worn almost daily for the past 10 years. 8 inch, all leather, steel toe boot that is still more comfortable than any sneaker I've ever had.

I'm a vet tech. Basically an animal nurse.
BTW, love those redwings too. I used to wear them everyday when I was running a calf route business.

Day Job

Supervisory Special Agent with a U.S. federal law enforcement entity. Prior to donning the business suit almost full time, I was SWAT, worked as a municipal police officer, was a police instructor and taught officer survival, etc. I also teach martial arts, mostly Filipino arts these days, though I have instructor rankings in a Japanese art or two. I won't go into the almost ridiculously long list of jobs I did while paying my way through college. Just with what I have written above, it looks like I just can't hold a steady job :D

That is funny. Someone saw my Caly 3 on my desk the other day and asked me about my big knife. I think I made them feel silly when I asked them if they really thought that was a big knife. (This person hunts and fishes and I was surprised at the comment.) I have been carrying my ZDP Caly Jr this week and no one has asked about it even though I have left it out in the open on my desk a few times.

I am a financial/accounting type for a commercial real estate firm. I guess they do not expect us finance guys to have a knife or something along those lines.

Don't think of it that way (the steady job comment), it proves that I was right to ask you to be my (un)official escort at a show. :D

Looking forward to it!

Yep Red Wing boots are nice. I melted the soles on my last pair though. I don't recommend standing on top of an alloying furnace while its turned on. :(

My night job just turned into a DAY job. I don't like this. They've laid off everyone under me, so I have the least senority. :(
My new shift, starting next friday is Friday through Sunday, 7AM-7PM. There goes my weekend. I have the entire week off though. But Im also going to be the only one in the plant those three days. More work, more time at work, NO WEEKENDS. Oh, this shift also sucks, because I don't get holidays off. I get paid for them, but I have to be there aswell. I need to punch something. Now.

I am a field service tech for a large company. Servicing emergency power equipment and installing CAT scans in hospitals. Pays decent but it takes a toll on the relationships in my life because of all the traveling I do.

No knives at work

Post by coffeeman »

I work for a company that provides print management solutions (hardware) along with document management (software) I have been with this company as a sales rep since Thanksgiving. It sure beats working out in a truck like I did with my previous position with a coffee company. The only problem is its a very corporate like environment, so I can not carry the type of knife I would like to. Most days I carry my small Sebenza in its pouch. While on sone I put a delica in a back posket with my wallet. Nobody in the sales department carries a knife cliped inside a pocket and that really sucks. I can't even play with one while I work. I do keep at least one Spyderco in my briefcase and into my pocket it goes after work. I miss my Manix Jr.
Special thanks to Bill W. for all of his inspiration and guidance.

I currently work as a larvae and nursery technician. Kind of a weird place for a criminal justice major..

I'm still looking to go into law enforcement, I'm just looking for the right fit right now.

Is that a fancy way of saying you grow bugs? :p
I saw an episode of Dirty Jobs about exotic bug farmers. It was very interesting, especially when the host had to squeeze a handful of crickets to feed water beetles :D

Well, I am an elementary school teacher in one of the poorest neigberhood of Canada (St-Michel, Montreal)....

Just 3 days ago, I got bitten, kicked at and spitted on by 6-7 years old kids.... But I also get my daily hugs from little children... And one of them's name is pretty Kim..... It's actually her real name.... And bears it well... :)

It's a hard job, dealing with kids whos only models are street gangs and druglords,..... But I have a feeling I am starting to make a difference in some of those youg lives.... especially Stephane... Steeve.... Souxada....

I will miss them very much when my contract will be over in June... :(

That is incredibly unfortunate that you are having troubles with those beliefs. I don't think enough people focus on natural health aides and preventative health. I mean, I go to the doctor when I'm sick but I used to work as a pharmacy technician for a large national mail order pharmacy that was owned and operated by a large insurance company so that the we only handled scripts for that insurance company. I've seen first hand the way that people are being over medicated these days rather than being held accountable for their own health. My prayers are with you sir that you'll get past your rocky times with your current job.
