Yes, that's impressive and a great idea. I tend to remove clips on FRNs, but wire is good - when there's danger of losing the knife, it goes in a small zipper pocket with my car keys. Another reason I prefer FRN - you don't have to worry about scuffing it up.Bolster wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 9:30 amBeg to differ...that's a remarkable creation! And useful. I agree that the wire clips are sine qua non. I must have missed your Native and Temp conversions, first I've seen it. Well done, man. I would like to machine a clip converter from aluminum but I think it's too small (for someone with my skill level) to do on a mill. Well done, strong work. LMK if you decide to sell any. My main reservation about purchasing the Goddard was the proud clip placement. Would like to go 'pocket-low' if possible.

Re: St. Nick’s Exclusive red and black Goddard!
I got this knife for the "retro" appeal and I found it aesthetically pleasing. Something new with older style FRN and barrel clip? Sign me up.
I was NOT expecting this knife to go in to my carry rotation, but it has. I'm wondering if I should get a backup/spare before they sell out
Thanks to Sal and the St. Nick's folks for making this happen!

Re: St. Nick’s Exclusive red and black Goddard!
I measured mine last night and the best I could get was .023" right on the shoulder. That was from under the bug logo to about 1" off the tip. I was hoping for more like you measured but no go. I whittled on some hard wood I keep on my workbench and sliced some cardboard. It cuts well regardless

Re: St. Nick’s Exclusive red and black Goddard!
Very nice! I know quite a bit about 3D printing but hadn't thought to make a wire clip adapter. If you"re willing to share your STL file I'd love to make one. Otherwise I'll fire up Fusion 360 and make my ownGuts wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 7:37 amDecided to make a wire clip adapter for the Goddard just cuz. Still need to adjust a few things and the clip obviously doesn't reach the flat spot on the handle, but I've always liked how much easier knives slide into the pocket with the wire clip. Not to mention, the texturing on the Goddard isn't as aggressive as the newer bi-directional stuff so probably won't tear up my pocket (as much )

Thanks for starting this thread Candyman. This one would have slipped by me otherwise.

Subjective Mini Review:
+) So thin! Both handle and blade. Handle .40 thick, blade .115 above the Spyder hole.
+) So light! 2.8 oz on my scale.
+) So big! compared to what I was expecting
+) Natty color scheme
+) Neato retro styling
+) Stiff, rigid, feels strong in the hand.
+) Interesting new steel for me.
+-) Forward ricasso-area grip works well. One does wonder why the forward area of the grip doesn't have a slight concave instead of convex, but a choked up grip seems reasonably safe as is. In regular (non-choked) grip, very safe, keeps the fingers well away from the blade...a nice attribute for a back-country knife.
+-) Not as grippy as more modern FRN designs, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
+-) One of the dullest Spydercos I've received but I don't care about that; sharpening is up to me.
+-) Blade shape has more belly than I normally prefer but it's certainly not a negative. At least it has a nice, acute tip.
-) Suffers from "Grip Ambiguity" for me, where my hand can't quite figure out where to hold it. Forward a little? Back a little? This is a common effect (for me) for knives with large radiuses under the index finger. Few people have index fingers that are 1-1/4" in diameter (mine about half that), so there is some hunting for the right spot when I grip it.
-) I wish there were some jimping under the thumb, on the lockbar ahead of the lock release. As is, due to the Grip Ambiguity, occasionally I find myself gripping the knife well back, where the base of my thumb falls dangerously close to resting on the Boye Detent. I'd hate to grip the knife in a hurry and accidentally press the lock. I think jimping forward of the lock would help index the thumb. Of course this jimping could easily be added, but then there would be bright metal grooves on the blacked-out backspring.
-) Sits high and mighty in the pocket. I should probably list this as a neutral item, except that for me it's a negative. (Remember, this is a subjective review.) I'd purchase a deep carry clip for this if I could find one.
-) Grind is quite uneven on mine. I list as a negative but it's not a big deal to me. Will probably sharpen out with time.
I think this will make a great backpacking knife! Have wanted a Goddard for some time and always felt bad I missed out on the last sprint. Thanks SNK and Spyderco!

I’m so so tempted… but I’m on a bit of a rust proof kick these days. This form factor would make a superb salt series!

Decided I like it enough to get a second. Its very similar to but yet very different than the Stretch 2 XL.
