Oddly enough the best color I've seen this dye/sand treatment done on what pink. It turns out a weird '80s neon vibe.

Re: SE MagnaCut Testing Thread
I purchased my N5 magnacut 2-3 weeks ago from SFO. Looks like I got from the first batch? 12-22 A.
I’ve sharpened this knife twice and carried it everyday since its arrival.
2-3 week impressions. It bites into cardboard really effortlessly. Very easy to sharpen up for the EvilD challenge. Tip was quick to reprofile to 15 degrees.
When breaking this knife down and dying it, I noted very little white glue on the treads. Some of the screws felt lightly screwed in.
This week I’ll collect one of my wife’s Amazon boxes and measure out in inches how much I cut and give an opinion.
I’m a sucker for the boring olive color… all that’s holy help me if I ever drop it on a fishing trip…
David your dye job was awesome.

Thanks. I wanna give this guy some kudos, don't wanna take credit for his idea. His pink one is what inspired me to do the yellow. Not sure if he's a member here.
What I really love about this dye style is dye always wears through but this basically prevents this and any additional wear will blend in.

Re: SE MagnaCut Testing Thread
A little update in the Evil D universe. After 7 years I decided I'd had enough of the towing industry (also a higher paying job offer didn't hurt) so I'm now back with the company I worked for about 18 years ago when I bought my very first Spyderco, which is a corrugation plant (aka makes boxes). I won't be making them or working on the machines but I have literally an infinite amount of corrugated to cut now in practically any grade you can imagine and I'll be opening and breaking down shipping boxes and crates and strapping bands and such all the time so no more playing in traffic and cutting up car bumpers for me.
Today I'm working on cleaning up the department I'll be managing and it's a tall order. I've broke down or cut up probably 100 boxes today and this knife is showing it.
Besides the steel, which I'll evaluate later after work when I'm not so busy, I'm falling back in love with the Native and even the size of the knife. I have a feeling that my Rock Jumper may be the perfect knife for me and this kind of work but I'll keep using the Native for now.

Big yes and yes. I can actually relax a bit on what I carry now too, since it doesn't necessarily have to be life threateningly efficient lol.

Nice David! Congrats! Now we should see you more often in "What is in Your Pocket Today", since you probably will not be carrying an Anatomy everyday.

His anatomy goes with him no matter what, his Autonomy might find some rest in the sock drawer though!

I hate, I mean hate spell check. Gets me everytime. I am not editing it. It is staying like that forever.

Congrats on the new job, and yeah, the Native is a real sleeper until you get to work with it, then it’s just so good.

Re: SE MagnaCut Testing Thread
Congratulations! Sounds like it will be better for you, and you'll have extra cash for a new Spydie if one catches your eye.
Re: SE MagnaCut Testing Thread
It would/will be interesting to see the same test after you have sharpened the knife half a dozen times or so to get rid of any burnt steel and whatnot that may have been there from production.
Great test and write-up.
Cheers

Re: SE MagnaCut Testing Thread
Well by the end of the shift today I thoroughly dulled it. Really no surprises here, I guess maybe I can try different grits and see how the edge retention changes but I'm just happy to see the edge didn't suffer any damages beyond a tiny ding where I banged the edge against a steel shelf as the blade finished making a cut. The edge is too dull to slice even an envelope but it was still zipping through boxes pretty much the same as when I started the day.
As usual with this steel it sharpened up super easy. I'm sure it'll get more of the same tomorrow.
EDIT:
Ha, it just occurred to me I've been using this knife since Monday without touching up the edge so maybe the edge retention is actually pretty great? Today is just the first chance I've had to bother taking pics or posting about it.

Re: SE MagnaCut Testing Thread
did you try cutting the paper after wiping the edge clean? i imagine all that residue has an felt effect on the edge that might not be real degradation.

I did yeah, it's cleaned off in that pic with the envelope. The edge was really gluey though.
