When is the Ikuchi going to get some CQI?
When is the Ikuchi going to get some CQI?
When I first saw the Ikuchi in the catalog I wanted one really, really bad. But when they finally got to Canada they instantly sold out. Well fast forward and finally the store has got another shipment, and luckily I just happen to be on vacation in the area.
I heard about the tip cutting people with the blade closed so I tested it myself. And sure enough I got cut! It was a weird cut where it wasn't deep enough to draw blood, but it stung like an annoying paper cut. So I ended up not buying the Ikuchi and bought a totally different Spyderco.
Seems to me they could easily fix this by simply widening the scales a few millimeters.

Re: When is the Ikuchi going to get some CQI?
Sad part is the Ikuchi already went through CQI recently to now include a pivot bushing for improved flipping. With all the complaints of the tip cutting people when closed I thought that would be addressed as well. I had an Ikuchi from the first batch and ended up filing the tip down. Great design besides that. Ended up selling it tho.

AFAIK that has been fixed on the CQI version?

OP sounds like they were handling a recent Ikuchi... Mentions "second shipment". I would assume that's from the CQI batch made available recently

They only arrived at the beginning of December, but being it's Canada I don't know if it's the latest version or not. To get them over the border they tighten the pivot down as much as possible, and the one I tried was still kinda tight.Spydergirl88 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 2:53 pmOP sounds like they were handling a recent Ikuchi... Hmm..
I just got mine in last week.. I can feel the tip, but it does take a bit of pressure to get the skin to contact it. Also, detent was a bit stiff, but now it flips with a vengeance...

I know, but i did ask specifically if the tip issue was fixed as well and was told 'yes' (too tired to look up the actual post)Spydergirl88 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 2:53 pmOP sounds like they were handling a recent Ikuchi... I bought the Opus, I really like it.
Re: When is the Ikuchi going to get some CQI?
I had an original and a CQI. The tip sits lower on the CQI. On the original I sanded down the tip. On the CQI that wasn't necessary.

Re: When is the Ikuchi going to get some CQI?
My CQI Ikuchi doesn't have that problem. When closed the tip is not flush with the liners. My finger doesn't catch the tip even if I press down on it.

Well..
I suspect that mine needs more break in - still really hard to flip with the wheel (and that's a bit of a finger shredder still). easier to do a two hand open by using the compression lock release the blade from the handle ..
Other than that.. its a keeper for the design..

There are 3 ways to open it easily. Do some research here and practice.flasharry wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2019 5:44 pmWell..

Re: When is the Ikuchi going to get some CQI?
After almost a month with my CWI version, I can get it to flip reliably with my thumb, and I've almost got index lipping down.
The tip on mine is recessed just enough, though the detent has just enough play that it can wiggle out to flush sometimes. I would prefer to have more of a lip on the scales, but it's still a design I like.
I hope we see a V 2.0 of this design in a few years. I keep comparing it with the Des Horn; there's some middle ground between the two and I think my ideal pen knife lies in there somewhere.

Re: When is the Ikuchi going to get some CQI?
Tip is low enough to not be cut on my cqi version. I suppose I could probably press my finger in between the scales enough to make contact...but why on Earth would I do that?
