Poll: New Wharncliffe Variants?

#1

Post by knivesandbooks »

I loved the wharncliffe variation on the Delica this year. Actually, the wharncliffe is my favorite blade shape. It is just so incredibly useful. So, I'm wondering if anyone else wants to see another wharncliffe variation hit the market. I was thinking a wharncliffe native 5 or manix 2. Of course, there is the amazing Yojimbo 2, but I was thinking a more conventional wharny shape. The idea of a wharny with a finger choil excites me haha. Thoughts?

An Endura would be a nice start.

Voted Dragonfly because it seems like the best next step but would also love to see the Native, Manix LW and Urban or UKPK in wharncliffe.

My number one pick is the native 5, but the dragonfly is definitely the next best step. I carry my wharny Tidioute Beer Scout knife as a secondary every day but would immediately replace it for a wharny dragonfly. About the same size but lighter and with a lock.

Def endura, or Yojimbo with a 4" (at least) blade.

If anything, I would say the Endura, and only for the sake of having the pair of wharnies. (Delica + Endura)

Or an Urban Lightweight Wharncliffe sprint run. I always wanted to try the g10 model, but just never pulled the trigger, so I think a lightweight model in wharncliffe would be cool.

I'm not really into the idea of just taking any existing model and changing the blade shape to a wharncliffe. In my opinion, it needs to have a warranted reason for changing the blade shape at all. Also, I'm probably in the minority opinion when I say this, but I don't think "I like wharncliffes and I like *blank* knife" is good enough reasoning for a blade change.

Don't get me wrong though, I really like wharncliffe blades and I'd be happy to see more new models released with wharncliffe blades. For example, the Q Ball. :spyder:

A photo edit of a knife I'd love to have...

Wharncliffe Native 5. I'd probably buy it in plainedge though rather than serrated, since I already have a serrated Native.

A Wharncliffe Endura would be pretty nifty too.

I'll go Manbug or Ladybug...I prefer wharncliffes in tiny knives. I recently bought a ZDP-189 Ladybug (wanted it over the Manbug because of the thinner blade) and was imagining how much easier it'd be to use with a lower tip...however, it isn't bad at all with it's current blade shape! I know this is gross but it's great for cleaning out dirt from under my nails. I didn't vote for the DF2 just because I love it the way it is right now....I wouldn't change a thing on that little beast!!

These two, but mostly the Manbug. It would always be in my pocket. The Urban blade is laying in the FRN frame, so I could see what it would look like.

Earlier I voted for a Dragonfly Wharnie but I could also be very happy with a Manbug or Urban LW

I had some ideas similar to Jazz regarding a wharncliffe manbug or Dfly (you can find an old thread of discussing the pro and cons of straight vs rounded spines). I designed a hybrid of the yo 2 and Dfly I called the Yofly, and a wharncliffe manbug with more of a yojimbo/jester influence.

Manix 2 for me, with the Dragonfly coming a close second.

My #1 choice would be a Police 3 or 4.

My #2 choice would be an Ark.

I'd love to see more wharncliffes of all sizes.
