Re: Thanx much!

You're always the example of class and good conduct Sal and that situation was just another example.

Re: "The knife guy"

I recently mentioned being "the knife guy" at my job. I was "the knife kid". From the time I was little I loved knives and the grown ups would even ask me to "sharpen" their hunting knives. I was terrible at it but they didn't do it hardly at all so it seemed better to ...

Hi Eli,

Joyce does an exceptional job in creating Spyderco's catalog and I think you need to get one. It's a work of art. Persistence is king.

Spyderco Hardcopy Catalog

For whatever reason, probably my own fault, I realized I hadn't received the latest catalog and put in my request a few days back. I know these catalogs cost money to produce and we can find everything digitally, but I always get them in hopes of generating some interest among others. I work in manu...

Re: To loctite or not?

Being married for many years, I use fingernail polish. Been holding several of my guns together for years and works well on all low-stress screws but is still super easy to break loose, clean up and reapply.

Re: CPM MagnaCut | Edge Performance

I'm hoping that my video drew more attention to Shawn's rope cutting studies. They were very useful for understanding cutting behavior. We are fortunate to be in a time to witness the rise of two new cutlery legends in yourself and Shawn and we're blessed to be able to reap the rewards from you both.

Re: Tree planting.. help

I'd go with a fixed blade. Maybe the Bill Moran in VG10. Not because of strength but because of comfort. When you really start bearing down on knives you start finding hot spots you don't normally notice. Pocket knives tend to be thin for carrying comfort and while they can handle hard tasks for sur...

Re: What Will Be The First Magnacut Model?

Hat's off to you Larrin. I'm carrying a Manix with Magnacut. Very sharp. Took a beautiful edge. Also doing very well in our corrosion test tank, after 10 days. Gonna be fun. sal i know we're going to see the native first, but this gives me hope for a manix. a g10 manix with magnacut would be very n...

Re: MagnaCut - Yeah, It's Probably Just Hype...

I expect the Magnacut to be about as relevant for the kitchen cutlery as the S30V was/is. That is - not that much. It is a very different world and apart from a few custom makers I have not seen any drift towards high end steels. What became more dominant is the amount of new/young makers that appe...

Re: MagnaCut - Yeah, It's Probably Just Hype...

This waiting game for new Spyders with "Magnacut" blades reminds me of another event in Spyder-History. Rewind the tape all the way back to the year 2002. That was when all the hype started about a new blade steel we know today as S30V and how manufacturers and knifemakers were very high ...

Re: Sal, Can You Remind Us Of The Ladybug's Origins?

I love the back story on knife designs. I would love there to be a sticky thread that's along the line of Story Time with Sal. Could be origin stories of different models, other interesting tidbits of working with designers, anything. Would just be fun to memorialize some of these stories. I would ...

Re: Sal, Can You Remind Us Of The Ladybug's Origins?

i remember wanting the ladybug for months and then seeing the endura in cliffhanger. i had to have it. i was just a kid, so the endura wasn't realistic for me. the ladybug was my first pocket knife, hence the name. today, i carry a ladyhawk on me always and a pacific salt often. still great designs...

Re: Sal, Can You Remind Us Of The Ladybug's Origins?

Hi Eli, We had brought the Endura and Delica into the market. One of the Sakai brothers, I think it was Sumio, asked for a miniature Endura. I said OK so we made a mold for the knife and brought it out into the market. It worked out OK, but by then we'd learned that just making a knife smaller does...

Sal, Can You Remind Us Of The Ladybug's Origins?

Sal, Several years ago I gave my son in law an Endura. He and my daughter now have several Spydies that they use hard and often. I recently gave my daughter a Ladybug and after a couple weeks of use, she just text me how much she loves it. I was telling her how someone, I thought a Japanese smith, a...

Re: Best Overall Blade Design for Tactical Duty?

No one, especially a military member, should ever be carrying a Strider.

Sal, that's a footprint I'll muddy but move on.

I'm not much of a believer in knives for tactical defense so I'll bow out of that discussion.
