Re: More 52100?
Other than being inexpensive to manufacture, I don't see what 52100 offers that Cruwear or even LC200N don't do a lot better.

Re: Would a CruWear Pm2 Blade….?
Well, it’s one of the only sprint run pm2s I can find in Canada atm, and I really want to try out different steels in a platform I absolutely love. I heard somewhere that CruWear had slightly better edge retention and better toughness than s30v, along with worse corrosion resistance. I don’t have a...

Without the boye dent does the blade wiggle a bit when you really clench down on the handle?

Workers in similarly-used condition look like they go for $40-80 on ebay.

Re: Sharpmaker questions
If you're needing to establish an entirely new apex I'd grab some diamond sharpmaker stones. If you're fine with a microbevel I think the brown stones will do fine, though Elmax has enough vanadium that sharpening with ceramics probably won't result in the best performance from the steel, you will b...

Re: Paramilitary 2 vs Shaman
Guys looking for buying advice on how to actually find Spyderco knives in stock. I mean if I wanted to buy the Shaman right now in something other than S30V it’s very hard to find. Spyderco has none online. I looked for the Cru-wear, z-wear and REX-45 versions with no luck. Does Spyderco make more ...

Re: Paramilitary 2 vs Shaman
I think you just need a new Manix my friend! It sounds that you love the model just like me and i can tell you can purchase what you want but you will mis it and in the end buy a new Manix to edc anyway! I have 5 pm2’s and guess what they never see any use because for me there is no knife model in ...

Re: Why should one buy spyderco knife?
Hi MillingMachine, Cost difference is due to Country of Origin and Blade Steel. Personally, I would suggest a Delica, Full Flat VG-10 plain edge (Japan) of a Para 3 full flat S30V plain edge (USA) and go from there. I designed the Delica and my son Eric designed the Para 3. I do not believe you wil...

Re: Blade strength : geometry vs blade steel ?
First, we need to be clear if it is strength or toughness the OP is wanting to know about. Second, is this concerning the tip, the apex of the edge, or the body of the blade? Obviously, the easy way to get a blade with great strength to resist bending is to make it thicker. The easy way to make a t...

Yup, I picked up one recently too. It's the perfect size for touch-ups by hand, and I love the soft leather sheath it comes with.

Also, from the Wikipedia article on toughness: In materials science and metallurgy, toughness is the ability of a material to absorb energy and plastically deform without fracturing.[1] Toughness is the strength with which the material opposes rupture. One definition of material toughness is the amo...

Re: Which knife has stronger tip? Military vs Native Chief
... Cruwear even at its hardest has a toughness of ~15 ft-lbs, vs. 20cv which has a toughness of about 5 ft-lbs (don't have more datapoints for how that varies with hardness), which means that the Shaman blade in 20cv would have to have 3x the cross-sectional area to beat the Military blade. While ...

Re: Which knife has stronger tip? Military vs Native Chief
Quick question : What matter most in terms of blade sturdiness. The geometry/grind used or the steel ? Like what blade would be a stronger ? A military in Crucarta or a Shaman in 20CV ? You'd have to do the math of strength (in units of force/area) multiplied by the cross-sectional area of the blad...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Stropping is still a bit of a mystery for me. Sometimes it helps me achieve that next level, and sometimes it makes it duller than it was off the stones themselves. I give it a try here or there, but it's really not necessary for me. I'm sure that level of sharpness when achieved with the strop, do...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Basically just refining the factory edge on my new Cruwear PM2. I really love the results I get with a well-broken-in Worksharp 600 grit diamond stone and 1 micron diamonds on a hard leather strop, both freehand. In my experience this produces an edge that is a great balance of sharp and aggressive ...

Re: Scale color difference between "purple" and "purple" DLT exclusives
Could it just be dirt and wear? Nope, I haven't had it that long. Yeah the old scales have a little bit of grime on them, but the color is consistent on both the outside and inside of the scales. I'm wondering if it's a deliberate choice, or if it's just an inconsistency in batches of G10. Color-ma...

Yeah, I feel like I remember people being frustrated that the Urban lost a bit of blade length (in an unannounced change) for the sake of being compliant in a wider variety of jurisdictions.

Re: What knives would benefit from "non-compliant" variants? Would you buy it?
I don't think anyone in this thread realistically expects spyderco to double their SKU's to please a small subset of users. But, hypothetically, if I could get the blades of X model extended to maximize the edge length, I would. Yeah, maybe the more useful hypothetical is: which spyderco would bene...
