Kitchen Knives

#1

Post by Holzfaeller »

I just received two Spyderco kitchen utility knives in SE that I ordered as Christmas gifts, intended for people who have only horribly blunt knives in their kitchen, as many people do. Now I have to question my judgment when I see how sharp the Spyderco kitchen knives are. I think that these two people will be afraid of them and go back to using their familiar, if rather useless, cutlery.

There is a brand that says their knives always stay sharp that makes thin knives... and a youtube guy was testing one. He showed that you could cut an apple with the spine of the blade, but it didn't cut through the skin.

Don't worry- if they go to folks that don't know how or when to sharpen their kitchen knives, they'll end up blunt soon enough :(
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

My SE kitchen knife is the knife I fear most. I've cut myself more times with that thing....still awesome though.

I purchase my SE K04 and K06 on the knife show in 2006. For some reason they do not see much use. My wife favorite is Yang. I prefer K04 PE and Santoku. Both of us using paring knife. It is very good.
I can only wish that Spyderco would make 9-10 " FFG Guyto with 2 mm stock and bread knife.

It's the blunt tool that's the unsafe tool. Ignorance is bliss.

Ooooh bread knife.

I look forward to the bread knife. I'm guessing wavy serrations and 10+" blade.

Very cool about the bread knife. I was hoping for this because one of my favorite kinds of bread are the whole loaves that are crusty on the outside and softer on the inside. I have a Henkels bread knife and also a Dexter-Russell serrated knife that I use to cut bread but I was hoping to see a Spyderco Bread Knife. Very nice :)

My **considerably** better half complained when I first used my Sharpmaker on our assorted kitchen knives (Global, Westhof, Henckels, Sabatier, mostly).

Now she complains when I don't.

Nice. Thank you. Can you comment on the handle material? Steel? Please :)

I actually use the K04 in SE as my bread knife. Works great, and eliminates the need for a dedicated bread knife in the kitchen.

Any chance of a Spyderco wooden block since the kitchen knives seem to be making a resurgence?

Maybe someone has already found a block that fits the kitchen knives.
