Spydie hole = eye ???????????

#1

Post by Classified00 »

I just finished looking at all of the models available and I have to say this. The hole looks like.......well......an eye! It sorta makes the knives look like alligators or something.

* Anyone care to comment?

I just may have to pick up one of the smaller ones though, they look like nice, light, GP knives.

Not sure about the hole, but the SpyderRench has eyes at the clip screw! Look at the new catalog. Think mine must be shy, I havent seen them yet. May have to sent it back!

Clasified00,
Since the human eye is drawn to an eye, we've used this idea in a couple past print ads. We've placed a really small dot (usually red) in the center of the hole and it unconsciously drawns in your gaze. You don't openly notice the red dot but it draws you in.

My wife swears that the serrated blade on the Mini Dyad resembles a Cayman.

Whoa... Spyderco just admitted to subliminal advertising. How weird!

Actually, I think Spyderco knives resemble rats, but it could just be me. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

RLOL!
"Whoa... Spyderco just admitted to subliminal advertising."
Cerulean

Not so much subliminal advertising as us just messing around. We like the idea that Spyderco models are somewhat "animalistic" and the round hole is kinda like our Nike swoosh. We capitalize on that, no doubt.
The anthropomorphic comparison opens up all sorts of ad ideas. Maybe our ad department should look into the subliminal thing more closely. Always wondered why as a kid after going to the drive-in I wanted popcorn for two weeks!

Brent,
I've always thought that Spyderco's blade kinda resembled an alligator too. Glad I'm not the only one.

Welcome to this week's episode of "Crocodile Hunter"
CH: Here we are deep in Spyderco factory outback. LOOK, here comes a Miltary!! Notice it's large single EYE and razor sharp teeth. Here, let me run up and grap it so you can get a better look. The Military uses it's large single EYE to spot prey. It'll eat almost anything; rope, plastic, paper but it prefers packing tape. You have to be careful when handling dangerous creatures like this. You never wanna let it's mouth near your hannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..........ahhhhhhhh......it's got me...............help.........HELP........AND IT KEEPS STARING AT ME............. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

"I always imagine wings on mine though...
flying reptilian things?" - doppelganger

Just a couple of days ago, I built a little plaque type thing to display my Spydercos and attached it to a wall. It's basically just a board with several copper pins sticking out of it, and the knives hang from the pins by their lanyard holes. Hanging upsidedown in a neat little row, the Spydies look so much like bats that it's actually kind of eerie.

Wow - I have a board to display all my spydies too. But I hang all mine from the "eye" with the blades halfway out. kinda the shape of a 7. But i agree about the mini dyad it looks like a cayman with the shape of the blade and the "eye". But I think the rest look more like a predator bird of some kind hanging the way they do. Just my 2 cents.
