Raven 2 Pivot
Raven 2 Pivot
Hi Fellas…..Ive been a Byrd carrier for years and have enjoyed reading these Spyderco forums a lot.
Five weeks ago I swapped out my CaraCara for a Raven 2 as my EDC blade and have been loving the form and function of this knife. This Byrd a real pleasure to own, carry and use.
When I first bought the Raven2, I flushed it with CRC and compressed air which removed the slight gritty feeling present when opening and closing the blade. All was well, but over the next few weeks I noticed an increase in blade play to the point where the tang started to strike the liners.
I bought a torx driver at the local hardware store and considered the blade play/alignment issue was going to be an easy fix…just tighten the pivot and its all good.
HA..it seems the pivot was threadlocked and the darn pivot would not tighten or loosen with moderate screw driver pressure, but it DID rotate in the pivot hole.
I considered this to be very bad JuJu and a significant issue. This should not be happening in any way.
Anyway, I posted the knife back to my retailer with an explanation and he has offered to replace the knife with another make, or with another Raven2 when he gets them back in stock .. (don’t know when)
My questions are…what happened to my knife?, I used moderate pressure on the torx driver, no gorillas were hired for this job.
Should I wait and get another Raven2 , they are 100 bucks here and aint cheap? I love this knife but I don’t want a repeat experience that has seen me with out my EDC of choice for several weeks and more than a little frustrated.
Your thoughts and input sure would be appreciated.. :)

Hi Sal..
I have just received an email from my online retailer saying they are more than happy to post the faulty knife back to me.
I shall let you know when it arrives here, hopefully the middle of next week, all things being equal.
cheers

Re: Raven 2 Pivot
Good to hear it got sorted! The Raven 2 is still in my EDC rotation after more than a year of service, still ticking like a Rolex
(And i still consider it a crazy bang for the buck Manix/Superleaf mix :)

Re: Raven 2 Pivot
Hi all. I just joined this forum and also just received a raven 2. I have this exact problem. Although the blade hasn't come loose I wanted to adjust the pivot and it just spins. Is this ok ad long as the blade stays adjusted or should I worry. Thanks

Re: Raven 2 Pivot
I recently bought the Raven 2... it has the features I wanted over the Tenacious and I love the steel.. but my pivot was rough at first but after the 2nd day of flipping it.. it went away.. five days later I was using Froglube on something and decided just put a drop into my pivot on the fly.. and WOW.. buttery smooth and a pleasure to operate.
