Hi Sal,
Just purchased a Zoomer from Chicago Knife Works. Blade came very dull.
Can I send this in to be sharpened correctly?

That's a Hamaguri Edge (appleseed) and as I understand is most often sharpened on an abrasive like emery paper on a mouse pad.

Mine does not have that little dingus, no. I'd think that could be sharpened right off? Bookmarking for that emery board/mousepad process--if it doesn't look too hard I'd love to preserve the current edge/bevel. I'm trying to recall the last knife I had with this grind...might have been a Bob Lum?

I'm very excited about Spyderco sharpening it...the first one I had was serious.

The paperwork with mine said it would be conventionally sharpened if I sent it in, not convexed as it was originally done in Taichung.

Right. But, Sal said he would tell Charlynn to have it done the original way as it wasn't right from the factory.
Or at least that's how I read it.

Sharpening a convex knife isn’t too bad, especially if you don’t have to fix a chip. You put some sand paper on a leather strop or mousepad and go to town.

If you’re more of a fixed-angle guy KME makes a convex attachment.

Trailing strokes on a mouse pad, like stropping but on progressively fine auto body sandpaper...it helps to have clearance by placing it on the edge of a counter or raised butcher's block. You can get really beautiful convex edges with a little bit of patience and a steady hand.

Did yours not come so sharp either?
If so, send yours in too. Im gonna try to get mine in the mail tomorrow.
Like I was sayin, the first one I had a few years ago was magnificent.

Mine was fine, it has been used and touched up several times. It really doesn't need a factory refresh.

I bought a zoomer on clearance. It's worth what I paid for it but I would be mad paying full price. It is butter knife dull and the Appleseed grind doesn't even go all the way to the edge. It has been finished with a microbevel.
