Still looking for YXR7. Guessing it might be a more difficult heat treat. Default to HAP40.

OK I voted in the poll. I voted for the Blue/K390. However I was tempted to vote for either the Cruwear model or the HAP40 model. There were some really good choices to consider. My Burgundy FRN Caly Jr. with the ZDP-189 blade is one of my all time favorite EDC blades ever made. I've been perplexed for years as to why the Caly Jr. didn't become a permanent model in the main line up. But that's another discussion for another time I guess.

As nice as the Cruwear blade performs on my Sprint Run C-60 Ayoob I just don't see how you could go wrong with almost any model made with that blade steel.

I voted for Cruwear, but would love to see K390, SPY27 or HAP40 as well! LC200N I love om my Spydiechef, just not on the Jr. No interest in VG10. Only experience I have with ZDP-189 is on my caly. You can get it super sharp, but the trade off is that the steel chips more easily than most of these other steels.

The Caly Jr is such a well designed short bladed folder that you could use it for all kinds of new innovations. It was the absolute perfect Spyderco model to introduce ZDP-189 blade steel which they did in 2005. The Burgundy, ZDP-189 Caly Jr. should go down as one of the top 10 best knives Spyderco ever sold IMO.

I wish they would even go back to Micarta handles for the Caly Jr. like they had way back in the AUS-8 era. The all stainless Caly Jr is one of the very few stainless Spyderco folders that can be regarded as a collector piece. Spyderco would be smart to put this great model back into the main line up. And make the Caly Jr available in several different blade steels just like they have done with the C-36 Military and Para2 models.

Agreed!

Those are sort of opposite steels, aren't they? YXR7 being high toughness, low wear resistance; HAP40 known for low toughness, medium-high wear resistance.

K390 is my top pick. Currently, it is my favorite steel. I prefer a black DLC blade paired with a black, burgundy, or blue frn handle, but I would happily pick it up in many other options.

I may sound stuck in my ways but I wouldn’t change anything about the gray frn vg10 version for an frn version of the knife. Exotic high carbon super steels interest me too but there’s something to be said about well balanced fairly low cost effective vg10 steel. It’s all I really need for my uses, I’m quite the anti-steel snob. I’d rather pay less on the premium steel and have that money go to overall beautiful fit and finish, pins & linen micarta like on the original c52 & c54 calypsos’ and other spydercos made in Moki.

AArgh! Clearly we need to encourage more steel snobbery here.

:winking-tongue I don’t know if it could get any more encouraged, it’s the whole rage in the knife market now

I can't help but feel that the LC200N salt version is very appropriate for a knife with fish scales.
Great idea. I wish I'd never sold the VG-10 and black Micarta Calypso Jr. I once owned. I'll buy any stainless steel blade Calypso Jr. Spyderco wants to make if I can snag one before the sprint sells out. I'd be perfectly happy with the SPY27 variant that's leading the poll. But, a fish scaled Salt version would be pretty darn cool :cheap-sunglasses

I can only wish and pray that Sal will be on top of this project and it’s going to become a reality ASAP… preferably during my life time 🙏 😬

I voted K390 and other, with the other being S90v. I have yet to have a knife in s90v and this looks like a great platform for it.

a fish scale frn 'larger dragonfly' is the knife that would make me spend money i don't have. go forest/blue-green for the handle and i'm a lock in, basically regardless of the steel. s90v, cruwear, hap40, k390 would all be equally nice, as would a dozen others in the 4v and above range. i love this design and would love to have one myself.
