I may have mistaken the comment from another model. My apologies.

We're on the 4th page of this thread and still no photo of the knife? That's just wrong.

Personally I like the Orange and I really like the Sage 5. It’s a great design with a blade that possesses an accute blade geometry which cuts better than its stock thickness would suggest.

Rex 121 is an interesting choice - I’m Assuming it’ll be taken into or around the 69-71 Hrc range?

I’m also guessing around 70 RC for best edge retention. I’m guessing the price of Sage 5 Rex 121 FRN will be comparable to Sage 5 Maxamet FRN which is $246.

You mean in a warm-earth-tone-most-sophisticated-fiberglass-compound-material-flavor? :winking-tongue ;)

The Burnt Orange turns a lovely shade of red with Rit Dye-More Racing Red. Burnt Orange isn't a bad color, just not my favorite, I think I kept the Dragonfly stock from my Rex45 Sprints. Everything else was scale swapped or dyed.

I will definitely be getting one of these.

I can’t tell you how happy I am about the recent additions to the Sage 5 family. Best 3” Spyderco, imo…to see if getting this much attention is amazing, man.

*cough* cruwear

The only two Sage models still in production have Compression Lock & FRN (S30V & Maxamet).

The two models previewed at SHOT Show 2024 are also Compression Lock & FRN (SPY27 & REX-21).

What the Sage line also needs are MagnaCut and Cru-Wear.
So a Sage 5 LW in Spy27 is coming?

I've been carrying a early sample in Sage 5 in SPY27 for a few months. I won't say much as I'm pretty biased, ( my design, my lock, my steel), but I like it.

Outstanding.

I really liked the Sage 5 LW in Maxamet I handled this year at BLADE, BUT I don't like hard to sharpen steels. I also want to try out Spy27 steel, so Win/Win

Ok, let's settle for the compromise "pumpkin most sophisticated fibre glass compound material" ;)

Does anyone know if either of the new Sage 5 that will be coming, REX121 and SPY27, will have a DLC option? that burnt orange frn would be fire with dlc and black hardware.

The only coated REX blades have been white FRN GP knives exclusives and a copper handled BHQ exclusive, so I doubt it.

Rex121 is too exotic for my tastes. The toughness is just too low. BUT, I have been wanting to try the Sage 5 and the SPY27 will likely be the first one.

Same here.

Sage 5 is "the" comp.lock knife I want to try at some point ( I like the comp.lock on more "urban", small Edcs, not so much on larger and/or outdoorsy folders).

And as cool as I think it is that they bring REX121 to the market: I as an average Joe knife user shy away from such a steel a bit, think I can work better with Spy27 (despite I´d love the burnt orange handle of the 121 Sage ;) )
