Has Spyderco ever made a Spoon?

#1

Post by BIGSTRETCH »

This is a half serious question, but...

How about a spoon that is just sharp (or serrated) enough to separate the flesh from Mango skin, but also dull enough that you could scoop it out and eat it without giving yourself Joker face.

Is it even possible? Is the idea too stupid to even try??? Things we must ask ourselves from time to time in life.

So here is a pic from the moment I came up with the idea. I was inspired, still not about to try sharpening a spoon though.
I'll post more about it in the Sharpening Journal.

Sorry to break it to you but not a new idea and they are readily available, I used to get plastic ones with packs of kiwi. Not sure why you’d want a spoon with a hole in it anyway.

I'll live. Not sure why I'd want to eat with plastic utensils if I didn't have to though.

I used to eat snacks like jelly in a cup that came with a plastic spoon that had serrations on one edge, definitely not that sharp but enough to pierce thru the cup's plastic seal.

They aren’t exclusively plastic

I have those for my grapefruit. They suck and aren't doing anything to fibrous Mango flesh. I still believe Spyderco can do better. :)

Maybe they just need a touch up on the sharpmaker?

I'd rather let someone else do the product testing on such a thing. : )

Yeah, I wouldn't want to eat by putting a spoon with a sharp Spyderedge(s) on it into my mouth.

The origin story would be really sad too. Man wakes up with bright idea to sharpen spoon, eats mango, become Joker. It's all wrong.

Imagine the Forum six months from now?

My Spyoon will not hold an edge. What am I doing wrong?
When will the PDZZ-2028 model be out?
Which angle is the best for eating coconut?
Is anyone else's Spyoon corroding? I only use mine for eating Himalaya Salt Blocks.
When will Spyderco offer Micarta scales for my Spyoon? I like Blurple with green stripes.
Spyoon Sprint Runs...are they ever going to happen?
I bought a Spyoon off the Net, is mine genuine? It has parallel slots in the spoon part, is this normal?
How do I put on serrations, and which part is the best for an ambidextrous person like myself?
ETC ETC ETC
:cheap-sunglasses :nauseated :cussing

lol, or maybe we point to the terribly low rockwell hardness of this Dali spoon and beam with pride that our Spyderoons were made by a company that knows proper heat treatment.

Perhaps a folding hobo knife in which the spoon has a sharpened edge?

I had to look up what a hobo spoon was. Those are neat! Looks useful for camping and road trips.
