Dream Salt Knives

#1

Post by JoviAl »

Spyderco’s expanding Salt line of knives are to me a hallmark of the company’s commitment to practical innovation - they make fantastic dependable outdoor work tools. I personally am hoping to one day see a Manix 2 XL Salt in Magnacut - that would literally be my ‘one and done’ knife if I had to choose just one knife for all tasks.

If you could have a Salty version of ANY knife in Spyderco’s history, what would it be? 🤔

I don´t need total rustproofness, for example VG10 is as good as LC 200N in that capacity in my use.

That said: I DO like the lightweight (FRN) linerless construction of most Salt knives, and of course I don´t actually MIND if a steel is more rustproof than VG10

So both Jovials and crazywednesdays proposals are very much to my liking - IF you are talking about linerless FRCP versions of Manix 2 in SE and especially of Manix 2 XL (SE or not, an XL built like the regular Manix 2 LW must be amazing).

/ Generally they already pretty much make my Dream Salt knives with the ffg Salt 2 SE and the Pac Salt SE in H1 hollow sabre grind for super hard use or in LC 200 ffg for general cutting.
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

We know there’s a ParaMilitary2 Salt CPM-MagnaCut Black Grooved G-10 coming perhaps as soon as this year although it hasn’t been “Revealed” but it was shown at the 2023 Amsterdam Meet.

I’d like to see:

  • Native5 Salt CPM-MagnaCut with Fluted CF
  • Military2 Salt CPM-MagnaCut with Black Grooved G-10
  • ParaMilitary2 Salt CPM-MagnaCut Black Grooved G-10

Don’t get me wrong - I like all of the flavours of steels pretty much for one reason or another (I REALLY love K390 for example), but if I had to only choose one folding knife for the rest of my days of working outdoors it’d be a Salt PE Manix 2 XL in Magnacut - a design that just does everything I use a folder for really well paired with a steel that has proven to be Al proof and tropics proof 👍🏻

@Wartstein I just re-read your comment and registered what you were saying about a Manix 2 XL LW 🤯 That would be an incredible knife, especially with a thinner grind! 🤤

Mantra 2, although an Ikuchi might not be a bad choice, either.

This one for sure. Would make a great fishing knife.

Also an updated SE Atlantic Salt in H2, but using the Rescue 3 mould to give it a fatter and grippier handle.

But mostly I'd like a PE Salt 1 in MagnaCut.

I’ve got a Salt DF H1 SE in my pocket just now - great little knife! I would love one in Magnacut though.

If this H1 SE DFly came in a wharnie blade shape, I´d immediately get one too!!

From what I can see and read the H1 Dfly has a higher hollow sabre grind than all the other H1 Salts - I´d really like that! (the HIGHER grind)!

If spyderco released a REALLY compelling salt model, I’d probably bite again…but as of now, I’m completely “satisfied” with my sheeps Caribbean and mag native. On top of that, I have a couple of micarta clad mag mules for fixed blade corrosion resistance.

It’s always fun to get a practical, new knife but in reality…my fishing/hunting/camping needs are met many times over.
Crucarta: Shaman (x2), Manix 2, Lil Native, Delica, GB2 & PM2
Notable: 52100 and Cruwear Millie. “15v-arta” Shaman. REC Manix. K-carta Endura, P4, Dragonfly and Delica.
Favorites: Shaman, Sage 5 lightweight, Sheeps Caribbean, Manix, Endela and all things Stretch

I’m in that boat too. But, I was sorry to see the Aqua Salt discontinued. An update there would be my dream Salt. Unlikely, at best. One can but hope.
