Subvert Sprint CF/20CV!

Not much talk about this one so I thought I would start a thread. I almost had Carbon Fiber scales made for my Subvert and I’m sure happy I hesitated. This sprint is about as close to a Nati Amor Sabotage as I think I’ll get. If you haven’t handled a Subvert yet you are surly missing out, this thing is a beast!

I am excited about this one too. I have never quite pulled the trigger on the original but I’ve always been interested in the design. I hope that I can find an aftermarket clip that fits it though. It looks to be a really nice knife and I can’t wait to get my hands on one to give it a try.

I like the way it looks but at $400 its past my budget. Not saying its not worth it but **** $260 on a Shaman is pushing it for me.

Other than the BBB Collab, this is the knife I'm most excited for.

In a world of $200 pm2s, $300 Spydiechefs and $400 Bestechs, I think it's a great price.

Not gonna lie, I always thought the orange made the OG Subvert look kinda funky to me, like an orange banana. But the CF scales on this sprint makes it a hundred times more appealing, worth the high asking price.

Just thankful that the clips aren't reversible, else it would make a huge dent on my expenses as a leftie.

It's a beautiful knife. Sadly the big belly blade is a difficult shape for me to put to use. Which frees me up to buy two or three other knives, right?

Yeah, I want one. These materials are much more in line with the price than the original. Still not cheap, of course.

Price is crazy, this costs more than a large Sebenza over here in the UK by some margin!

I look at it this way - if I love the knife, can find the cash, and I think I can sell it someday without much of a loss - might as well try it.

Fans of this knife: What use would you put it to? What niche does it cover?

I don’t really have any particular utilitarian need for the knife. For sheer functionality I honestly would use a fixed blade for a knife this size. I guess that it channels my inner mall ninja and is simply a beautiful design and high quality materials for a knife that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford as a custom tool. I see it as kind of a miniature folding machete for the most part.

I couldn't see a use I would put it to, but watched Nick Shabazz' video review and by the end of it felt I needed one. I don't think he ever mentioned a use except to open packages, but "folding machete" sounds right. I think my FB Schempp Rock could handle most of the same tasks. Also, I think I like the orange better than the Carbon fiber.

I, honestly, don't have much actual use, or need, for any knife I buy lately. My daily carry is a small micarta Sebenza 21, and it does anything I need in my typical environment (office during the week, and usually a 9U baseball field on the weekend). That doesn't mean that I don't find myself buying knives like the Paysan (my most recent), or hopefully this ridiculously large CF Subvert, because they're beautiful and I love the designs.

I realize that I am not “Normal” anymore I think it is a normal size knife but the average Joe Public seems to think anything above 3.5” blade is humongous. It’s a machete if you are a chunky doll sized person. 😂 does anyone remember when it seemed almost everyone had a Buck 110 strapped to their belts? That is 3.75” and has always been considered a normal size folder knife for me. In my world, that is a way more of a functional blade design and size than 90% of knives out there.

It all relative on what the knife is designed ideally for. lot of the pros going for the buck110 is being a folding hunting/skinning knife, so ideally you want at least that blade length to handle harder use tasks well and even be versatile enough to be a good self defense blade.
For most, a pocket knife tends to be most functional for a range of uses that are more delicate and utilitarian, so smaller sizes and different shapes tend to fit those roles better.

That Subvert Sprint Run with 20CV & Solid Contoured CF is amazing. One of the best large folders (4.12” blade length) from Spyderco. At a $420 street price I hope to see it on sale late this year. A want not a need.
