What Knife would benefit from a button release.

What Knife do you think would benefit from a button release.
For me, the up coming Military 2 and the current Shaman would be amazing with a button release.

If you mean for the Compression Lock, I say literally all of them. It's an ergonomic advantage in many ways and it would absolutely change my opinion of the Compression Lock and I'd be way more likely to buy them.

Love this idea since it's in the spirit of the Sage series.

I know Sal said he had designed a button lock but it never got into production. They seem to be having a resurgence right now so the timing might be beneficial.

The only current model being manufactured with the button release is the Smock. The specs of the Smock shows the lock is a compression lock. So, yes. It would be part of the current compression lock system.

It would be cool if Spyderco didn’t phase out the original comp lock; but added a comp/button lock option for some of the heavy hitters like the pm2, Para 3, shaman etc.

Yeah, like an option.

Easy a button lock on a compression lock knife for lefties. Take a (righty) Para 3/PM2, and make a lefty button-lock scale.

I'd like to see anything get a button compression lock. I always find the lock cutouts a bit uncomfortable to use.

Since the lock is the only thing I dislike about knives with compression locks, I'd say all of them. The regular compression lock seems to me a little "prototypy," whereas the Smock's button lock is the finished design.

Yep this is it for me too. I don't mind the operation, and in casual use it's not a big deal, but when I use one hard and for any extended periods I don't like that cutout right on the spine of the handle. The button eliminates that.

I’d be open to trying a button-activated compression lock on a model that appeals to me.

Hi MetalsHead,

Welcome to our forum.

On the button lock; When I invented the original Compression Lock, we added the button option to the patent. We didn't use it for a number of reasons. To make models into Button Compression Locks would require all new tooling. A the time, "Gravity Knives" were considered switch-blades and were illegal to buy, sell build, import, etc. There are many countries where a Button Compression Lock would be illegal.

We'll consider the request.

I agree. For me it would be an improvement to most compression locks.

I would also be happy to see button/plunge locks used more often. I have a couple, one manual and one auto, and I like them.
