more black salts please!

#1

Post by ladybug93 »

i know this has been mentioned many times before in various threads across the forum, but i figured i'd make a thread specifically asking for more salt knives to come in all-black variants.

currently, the pacific salt 2 and the salt 2 are the only readily available folding salt knives (specifically worded to exclude the autonomy and aqua salt) that can be purchased in all black.

i have seen many requests for the blacked out treatment for knives like the dragonfly salt and for black versions of the lc200n salts as well. i understand that it may create more inventory issues to maintain more versions of current models, but i think they'd be immensely popular.

salts i'd personally like to see in all black:
dragonfly 2 lc200n
salt 2 lc200n
salt 2 wharncliffe lc200n
pacific salt 2 lc200n
pacific salt 2 wharncliffe lc200n (this knife doesn't exist yet, but it should)
caribbean sheepsfoot
ladybug hawkbill salt
ukpk salt magnacut
native salt magnacut
manix 2 lw salt (i know it's coming and i want it in all black too!)
stretch 2 xl salt (this also doesn't exist yet, but it should)

if you have any other suggestions, or just agree with me, please share!

Would these be visually distinguishable from C41PBBK5 & C101PBBK2 other than by blade markings?

I think very highly of my black Aqua Salt, so I definitely agree!

I would also like to see some red-orange/black Salts.
I think red actually stands out as good or better than any other color, like green/yellow/orange, around the coast.
The Coast Guard Salts, I guess, but not really because that would be the orange Autonomy.
I just thought of the Coast Gaurd because I’m used to seeing them fly overhead here in Florida.

In any case, red/red-orange is highly visible, an attractive color (so it’s not too specialized for people who don’t need the visibility), and black coatings reduce the instances where I blind myself with the blade of my knife.
I plan on dyeing my Caribbean red and possibly doing something to the blade to make it black.

The red/black 4V exclusives seem to be pretty popular. Those are darker than the red-orange I’m imagining, though.

Of course, having mentioned dyes, there is always that possibility for both turning knives black or red.

It's weird you should mention this, because just yesterday I was thinking how much I like the blacked-out Salt and Pacific Salt, and wondering why there weren't more Salts with that treatment. I usually don't care for coated blades but I love it on the Salts!

A blacked-out Caribbean would be killer! So would a blacked-out Dragonfly. And Siren and Waterway. Great idea, ladybug!

In my perfect world every knife would have DLC versions and serrated versions and serrated DLC versions.

And I fully expected a blacked out Caribbean. Kinda surprised it didn't happen.

100% yes! If I had to pick one I'd like a blacked-out FRN magnacut Siren. I can dream, right? :winking-tongue

While I'm being unrealistic, I'd also love to see the occasionally teased FRN backlock Caribbean in a blacked-out version.

I like the idea of the red handle-black blade combo! One of my favorite dive knives is an orange handle/DLC blade combination. Red would look even better, I think.

If I had to pick from current production, I'd ask first for blacked-out versions of the Salt 2, Pac Salt 2, and Ladybug in LC200N or Magnacut, and a DLC Waterway would be a really nice replacement for the Aqua Salt now that it has been discontinued.

At the end of the day I'd be stoked for any new blacked-out salt. :beaming-face

I know Spyderco has a lot in the queue right now and hopefully some of these wishes (the whole thread, not just mine) are already in the works and we just haven't heard about them yet.

I’ll throw my hat into the ring yet again to ask for an all black Ladybug Hawkbill! I’ve been asking for it for years, so I’m not actually expecting it to happen, but it doesn’t hurt to ask again.

We need this in regular production!

Spyder edge hawkbills are knife perfection. One can slice, push cut, and puncture, all with the same motion of travel. And cut any thing to fine shreds with minimal effort in seconds.

I would buy a blacked out Caribbean. The bumblebee scale color is the reason I've not gotten this model. And yes, I know about rit dye.

Yeah, the only thing I don’t quite like about the Caribbean’s handle is that the top layer of black g10 is polished. The way the slick bars aren’t interrupted make it feel a little like it will slide out of my hand. It’s not too bad, though.

I think this is a great idea.

It also reminded me that the SpyderHawk absolutely needs to make a come back and I would welcome an all black version as much as any!
