i might do the unthinkable
i might do the unthinkable
We're doing some deep spring cleaning. I'm seriously considering throwing these out...
empty of course

Re: i might do the unthinkable
I threw out most of my knife boxes the other year. Now I only keep the boxes of more unique items, such as models from the golden era.
I know the ultimate solution for me is to stop buying more knives, but it's pretty much an addiction at this point

Did you regret throwing the boxes out?

Re: i might do the unthinkable
I'd sell them. Try the usual places: Spyderco Swap, AZCK, Blade Forums.
Sell them in 2 or 3 lots. Let the buyer decide what to do with them.

We agree about the unthinkable, but not about the doing.

Re: i might do the unthinkable
I try to keep my collection = array of users (all of my Spydies are, except a nib Stretch 1 backup) slim, and so I sell Spydies from time tp time. Most buyers want to have them in their original boxes (totally understandable), and that's the reason why I keep those. I would not need the boxes, and I am pretty sure for some Spydies that are 100% for ever keepers I don't have 'em anymore indeed...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Garbage. Throw them in the trash.
A while back this topic was brought up. I offered up all my empty boxes for the cost of shipping. No one wanted them, so into the thrash they went.

Re: i might do the unthinkable
As a general rule I don’t keep any boxes around, but I must admit I have a small drawer of knife boxes. It’s small so the amount is self limiting and for the most part it works according to the First In, First Out principle.
Buying knives online without having seen the or held them IRL, does involve receiving some that wasn’t exactly as expected. Some you return/flip immediately, but some of them you decide to try out.
Keeping the boxes around for the trial period makes potential resale easier.
I don’t put any intrinsic value in the boxes, but I do agree that buying used knives with the box feels safer. So while I don’t like to keep them around, I can’t argue they are not totally without value.
That’s also why I think you should keep them or throw them away. By giving away or selling them, they could potentially be used to “white wash” clones.

Re: i might do the unthinkable
my knives are users and i don't intend to sell them, but i still keep my boxes. it's a compulsion and it's not only knife related. if you don't intend to sell the knives and you used your knives hard, there's really no reason to keep the boxes. i've started to mod some knives though and i found it's nice to keep the original scales in the corresponding box.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Re: i might do the unthinkable
I have boxes for maybe 2 or 3 Spydies. Never felt any real good reason to keep them, I guess, except for the very rare occasion I get something that is strictly a collector's item.

Whether they are "users" or "collectables", the boxes raise the value overall.
Even if you switch out your "users", you need a box to store them in.
And the boxes show the details for the knife.
It's called "organization".
