Best Seki K390

#1

Post by Sharp24/7 »

My next knife is going to be a high edge retention steel. Ideally, the Manix 2 15v, but if I can’t get my hands on one, I’m thinking a Seki K390 would fit the bill. Which models does everyone like? The Police 4 and Stretch 2 look most promising. I’m also open to a stainless like S90V, but those seem to cost more and I’m not as confident of the edge strength. To be clear, I understand the limits of a folder, but after seeing some of Triple B’s stuff on YouTube, I’m after the peace of mind that edge strength offers. Thanks in advance!

I personally love my police 4. So comfortable, and i love that big blade and the blade shape. It’s very thin and slicey too.

Hmmmm. Really like my toenail pickin' K390 Ladybug. Always at my fly tying bench for precision cuts. In most instances I prefer using it to razor blades. I don't baby it. I use it to scraped glue, paint and epoxy off of hooks, pipes, cut and trim lead, etc.

This kind of just sounds like, "Whats your favorite Seki model?".

I like most of them so Im probably no help.

Hard to go wrong with an endura. Although I do have a police 4 lightweight in my pocket right now.

Endura, Endela, or Stretch if you want a smaller carry. Police 4 if you want a big blade. Simple as that!

i remember a thread where sal mentioned how it was kind of a long road to get k390 into production and how he worked to get it on the police because of how much he likes the model for himself. since then, the se k390 police lw has seemed to me to be the sal knife. i'm pretty sure that's what i would go for if i get a k390 seki knife.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

My only Delica is a K390 model. It came with a very nice thin grind, which i think is optimimal for K390.

Currently I'd say the Police 4 but I'm really hoping K390/SE makes it to the Rock/Leaf Jumpers and I'd love to see it in some Golden models if that ever happens.

I’m a big fan of my stretch 2, but the only other Seki model I’ve handled is a delica.

Yep, simple as this. Quite rewarding.

Stretch 2, by a large margin for me.

To be clear, i'll also likely end up with a K390 stretch.

I really like my Hap 40 Stretch and V-Toku 2 Stretch 2, enough so i had held out for a drop point K390 Stretch.

Sal seems to have hinted a few times that the straight spine model is enough of a better seller that i'm thinking we may never see a production drop point K390 model.

How about a blue g10 K390 Stretch 2 sprint if we're not gonna get a K390 drop point production Stretch 2?

I like these two. The Delica is a new addition. Tempted to get more because of the fantastic steel, but also because the blue is soft on the eye...

I would be on a K390 Wharncliffe Manbug like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

Any of them. If you like a Wharncliffe blade, get a Delica, Endela, or Endura depending on your size preference. Or if you like the leaf blade, any of these or the Police. Or go with the Stretch if you like a PM2 style blade.

What size blade do you want? If you can answer that question, the answer becomes much more apparent.

It's pretty hard to beat a Stretch in K390.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I guess it all depends upon how you define best. I like larger blades as I spend as much free time in the outdoors as I can. It's my passion. When I think of serious cutting jobs, I tend to think big blades and in most of my outdoor activities, they are the correct choice and they bring me much joy. I even love medium sized Spydercos for carrying just in case as EDC's; however, when I really stop and think about it, the the blade I actually use the most is my K390 Ladybug. Go figure. I guess, go ahead and get the K390 blade that most inspires you and brings you joy, but maybe also consider having a K390 Ladybug tag along with your order.

Delica or Dfly for small and Endela for large but I agree with the previous post, often times, the Ladybug is all you need. My Ladyhawk sees more use than most of my larger blades. It opens packages like a little beast. Go figure. It pays to add a Ladybug to your order.
