I dunno.
It would have to be a new steel or blade shape to get me to bite.
Maybe a SE Wharnie in LC200N or Magnacut

Think I will be content to watch from the sidelines unless they can find some special steel to tempt me. Not going to do it with just aluminum scales.
Re: BladeHQ PM2 Aluminum-scale Exclusive
So is this the unannounced one from the October SpyderByte I wonder? The BD1N one? Looks to be the same machining pattern.

Re: BladeHQ PM2 Aluminum-scale Exclusive
Interesting... but in general, I dislike aluminum scales

Yeah it is definitely the same pattern.
I posted this in the thread for that knife.

Just a quick sketch to give a general idea of the full pattern.

Re: BladeHQ PM2 Aluminum-scale Exclusive
Ha! That is a simple face mill pattern (modified so it cuts a groove). Run it at a certain speed left, then again right, and done. I like aluminum scales, but this pattern isn't particularly creative from a machinist's standpoint. It more or less just accentuates the pattern you get when you face a piece of metal flat. Now, if it's done on contoured metal, then that's quite a trick. Are the scales contoured?
This ^ is not criticism. It might be an ideal grippy pattern. Just commenting that it's easy and mundane in a machine shop--nothing out of the ordinary.
Myself, I'd prefer a true cross-hatch pattern. But that's more work.

No, it's been confirmed by Mike Janich at the thread I posted above, it is the same flat-face PM2 scale.

Re: BladeHQ PM2 Aluminum-scale Exclusive
Gotcha. Now I am wondering if there is an advantage to the "less grippy" portion in the center of the scale and "more grippy cross-hatch" to the edges. Maybe this is a very useful pattern in terms of grip.

Would that be where the clip touches the scale?

Re: BladeHQ PM2 Aluminum-scale Exclusive
As much as I like aluminum they tend to scratch easy and just do not hold up as well as G10. Will be interesting to see pricing, I am out as my other aluminum handles knives look beat after a couple of months in pocket.

You nailed the pattern with that mock-up in the other thread. That’s exactly what made it so recognizable here.Mushroom wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 4:59 pmYeah it is definitely the same pattern.

Not me. You got the good eye that saw the post and shared it here. Thank you! I guess my next thought is, I wonder if this will be like the copper ones and be “linerless”. Looks like the clip screw holes may be tapped…

Re: BladeHQ PM2 Aluminum-scale Exclusive
I’ve wanted a pair of the Lynch scales for a long time.
One of my first experiences with a premium pocket knife was with a Benchmade 940, followed by a Sebenza (not owning either, mind you - far too expensive ;-) ). I still really admire Aluminum & Titanium scales.
I’m not sure if this will get me, but I will definitely be paying attention.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Re: BladeHQ PM2 Aluminum-scale Exclusive
I like designs with aluminum when it means less liner so either less weight, thinner scales, or nice curves. For an exclusive I'm guessing they didn't mess changing the liners, and we already heard it's still flat scales. I'm out if it's just the slabs changed to aluminum, but almost definitely in if more than that.

I like aluminum scales for their light weight and strength. I’m curious to see more about this one.
