Old school/new school

#1

Post by allhatnocattle »

I realize that there are tons of these pipe dream type threads but I also know Sal reads these every once in a while and who could resist a crystal ball into the minds of your customer base.

So what about a Micarta/52100 or Rex 45 UKPK or Urban?

Something to take a nice patina
Old school slipjoint flavor but new school design and steel.

What say you?

A UKPK with just about any color micarta and Rex45 would likely get my money!

No new idea, there are several requesting threads during the past years but we never got a GO or at least WAIT A BIT from :spyder: -co. :(

I for my person still say YES!

It’s been discussed before, and I’m happy to see it come up again.

The more people beat the drum for it, the more likely it is to happen.

I agree, a 52100 UKPK in contoured canvas micarta would be great. Make it a FFG drop point and it would be even better. For my purposes at least.

REX45 would be a great option too.

As far as the Urban, a lot of the steel options would seem anticlimactic after the K390 edition. Just my opinion. ;)

100% down.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

I'd probably bite. I like the thinness of the FRN on the UKPK but would might try micarta. Steels don't matter as much to me with the S110V version in my rotation.

Would a micarta UKPK still be appealing if it required liners?

We're working on a few Urbans, beefing up the pivots on the FRN versions. A Damasteel version, prompted by some "fool" in the UK. A UKPK was preferred but Golden is pretty busy right now. Some Urban Exclusives are also in-the-works.

I'd like to see some UKPK's with the same construction as the HH exclusive, with formed scales. We're pedaling as faast as we can. Eric is planning another addition to help production. Still a ways off though.

This thread came to me after seeing continued interest in High quality slip joints like GEC,Tuna Valley etc, so naturally i thought how could we get what are arguably some of the most innovative spyderco slip joints into the mix. And of course sal and his team are right on top of it.

Glad to here business is booming. It great to hear success and future planning. I really enjoy my HH ukpk.

I'd be all over a K390 or REX 45 drop point G10 handled UKPK. ( same construction as the HH exclusive with full steel backspacer) Brown G10 would be nice.

I've been accused of being "stuck in the past" by a few of my Spyder Brethren :o . Oh I'm sure they meant well but I can assure all of you that there are valid reasons for liking many of Spyderco's old school models. I've even got an era that I affectionately refer to as "The GOLDEN ERA OF SPYDERS ( 1998-2004). It seems like I still love all the Spyderco knives I obtained in that Golden Era.

Just recently we had an astounding success when I launched the thread about the C-60 Ayoob Campaign in hopes of getting a Sprint Run of that great model. Well the thread really grew legs and several people latched on to the idea and we've now got a new C-60 Ayoob Sprint Run coming our way sometime this year.

Of all the great Spyderco fixed blades that have hit the market in the past few years I still like the 2004 era TEMPERANCE 1 model better than any other Spyderco fixed blade to this date. It was made available in SE & PE both and it was one of the very few fixed blade models that they offered that option. That TEMP 1 model was an ergonomic dream and is a pleasure to work with. I'm still hoping that at some point we might see a Sprint run of that great model as well. Yes I'm "OLD SCHOOL" and darn proud of it. Oh sure there are a lot of new Spyders that have caught my eye>> but there are so many of the models from the GOLDEN ERA that I'll always love. Case Closed
