Native 5 in M390/20CV

#1

Post by pantagana23 »

My LC200N Native has been growing on me by the day, so I wanted to recheck all variations.

Spyderwiki says the following for Native 5:

http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=C41_Native

Basically, S35VN and a few variants in S90V and LC200N.

From my point of view, as a lefty and a fan of Golden product (best fit and finish I've seen of all Spyderco factories), I would love to see a version in M390.

Of course, as Sal always says - quantity is necessary even for a sprint run.

Please vote what you think of this.

IMO, this would be the only knife I would buy 2 immediately.

If it had liners and g10 or micarta (or was linerless with g10 scales I really liked) I'd be pretty tempted. If it was frn I'd likely pass as I have the native salt, and I doubt I'll ever buy another frn native. I like frn in a salt knife, but much prefer g10 on the native.

I would be interested but I didn't vote. I already have several Natives and several knives with M390 & 20CV. So I really don't need any more of either. I guess I would have to wait and see what the exact configuration is and then decide.

Ideal for me would be linerless G10/M390 and with rounded corners of the handle a bit, or at least not so sharp.

But ****, I'd buy it in M390 however it came :D

Never thought I'd say it, but I'm pretty set on the M390/20CV/204P family of steels. Making it easy for me to pass on those knives. Great steel, don't get me wrong, but nothing to gain for me. STILL awaiting to own or handle my first Native 5 though.

I feel like a sinner as an avid Spyderco fan and collector! A staple model I still haven't acquired.

I haven't been interested in a Native, since they CQI'd the liners.

Not an improvement in my book.

M390 and analogous steels do not interest me.

Make one of these in Maxamet however and I will purchase. This and a Native 5 will likely be my first REX-45 steel.

I'd definitely buy a native in m390, 20cv or 204p.

DLT should run it as their exclusive with red scales.

I also think Knifecenter should do an exclusive Native in Pakkawood and Rex 45.

That KC exclusive would do it for me, that would be my first. Imo, the Pakkawood scales are WAY nicer than those Rosewood monstrosities.

You're still yet to try Rex45?? That surprises me. You're in for a treat, as I'm sure you've read and seen a million times over now haha.

I'd buy one in either steel, with either handle material. I prefer liner-less either way. If it came with liners I'd swap the blade and lock bar into a liner-less handle and sell off the liner handle franken knife.

I believe so but in the past I was ignorant of several models did not know what I liked or did not and some like the Native Chief just did not exist. I was also on the it must be Stainless or it was to be avoided trip.

K390 and M4, 52100 Spooked me by how easy they rust but Cruwear and Maxamet have brought me sniffing up REX45 in the near future.

Thanks for the vote of confidence I have studied this steel allot and believe it will be unique from HAP40 as it is an unclad steel.

I am finding it interesting Spyderco has started using Analogs of Japanese steels and improving upon them in the U.S. Market I suspect trying to keep cost down for all of us has allot to do with it. Looking forward to some SPY27.

Make it a native chief and I would be interested. Don't know why but the native has never really captured me. Maybe I should actually try one out for a while and see if my opinion will change.

I would love to see a LW Native 5 in M390/20CV/204P steel.

I think M390 still has enough name recognition that an M390 exclusive would be a success.

Native LW in M390 with red FRN (the same formula as DLT's Para 3) would probably sell out fairly quickly, but not instantly, which would make it a PR win for them too (like their Para 3--sold out fast enough that they were happy with sales, but slow enough not to create disgruntled customers).

But there is already a Native 5 in Maxamet.

I am fond of the linerless G10 models. They see a lot more use than my FRN.

That said, I would definitely pick up a tan 20CV FRN. That steel has been good to me in the PM2. The color appeals to me as well.

Yes, I have one.

Looking at upcoming REX-45 version.

I only buy Spyderco’s for the blade anyways. Other than the Gayle Bradley 2 and titanium chaparral I throw all the frn or g10 scales in the garbage. I find them cheap and tacky.
I use scales from a German company called Cuscadi or scales from flytanuim.
I enjoy M4 or M390 or 20cv or Rex45 but I enjoy a good carbon fibre scale or titanium or even copper, but not sharp edged bendy plastic by any name

Depending on the color of the G10 and the pricing I might get one, never had the G10 version.
