Maxamet PM2 at Blade H.Q. I bought one how about you?

#1

Post by Doeswhateveraspidercan »

Just in case people are looking for Maxamet PM2's they are out and coming in to the dealers. Yesterday due to uncertainty I missed out on buying one at DLT then they sold out, plus I had to keep my word and reward Blade H.Q. with my next purchase because I approved of how well they did their last sprint run having large availability for people and they way they are processing orders, so that slowed my decision.

I did just buy one at Blade H.Q.

The big decision was do I go with a Para3 on the secondary market or the PM2?

In order to decided I took my Para3 in cruwear and my Pm2 in cruwear sharpened them identically and then proceeded to make identical cuts in cardboard breaking the box down to recycle.

I alternated between them and in the end I found that I prefer the PM2 to be truthful I have only ever really liked the Para3 in fully serrated which is to me better than the PM2 fully serrated.

So anyway still surprised after not carrying a PM2 for a while how much I still love that design.

I did not buy one as I don't care for the steel or the model, but thanks for asking! :D

I will also add I am looking forward to the SPY27 and CPMS45VN versions.

Still a little on the fence about the upcoming PM2 Tantos as they are not a really practical design for a folder. Sure they look awesome but a tanto is meant to pierce and get past old fashioned armor plate, I guess in a tactical sense perhaps but not much a fixed blade would be far more practical that a folder.

Even then I would rather avoid any situation involving using a knife to defend ones self with.

My guess is the value in that design will be its beauty and therefore be in the safe queen category.

I know what you mean about the steel and actually that is the exact reason I bought it. I held off for a long time due to the bad press over blades fracturing and tips snapping off.

Then I saw some of BBB's videos shaving aluminum rods, cutting and twisting through zip ties, cutting chips out of PVC and decided yeah it is tough enough for my use most I would put it through would be some small zip ties that would even come clost to qualifying as abuse.

I also figure if their were issues in 2017 with heat treat and reading Sal's comments on how they were workinf things out I figure here in the 2020 release Spyderco figured it out and fixed it as I recall this steel is a real pain to work with.

I have sufficient sharpening supplies and practice now so it should not be difficult to maintain.

Hmm now I think I need to sell my Para 3 in Cruwear after putting it up against the PM2 and making a distinct decision over which I prefer.

I imagine it may not and if it does it will require a much higher price after Watching Erics video and how he describes the intricate way they shape that blade I am betting Maximet may be a very difficult metal to make in that awesome design.

I grabbed one to try it out. Maybe I will like it, maybe I dont need it. Truth is I just like grey.

I swear they were actually in stock at knife center this morning but now they are back to preorder. Maybe I was seeing things.

Still says in stock at blade hq. Think its the first time they have lasted this long as they had them in stock last night.

I grabbed one from BHQ a month or so ago. Love the steel in my thus-far very moderate use (cardboard-reduction; line-cutting). Came with the hint of a pretty patina.

Just the other day I swapped it out for the K390 variant, which, having arrived from BBS a day or so before the Maxamet one, has been languishing. I’m hardly suffering.

Nope. I have been so smitten by K390, the last year or so, that I have been able to resist. I had a couple of weak moments but the Maxamet PM2 wasn't in stock at the time. Plus, I know I would probably want to get some aftermarket scales for this knife, and that would be another C-note. It is definitely on my radar though.

My knife money is being saved for the Para 3 SPY27 ATM.

That’s awesome, Pat! :)

One of my aunties has a pearl handle pocket knife but I don’t think it’s Maxamet. Anyhow, I’m pretty sure her and my uncle stayed at a Holiday Inn on a trip to Perth in ‘97.

Probably not going to happen with a liner lock, when was the last time Spyderco even released any new Militaries besides Yawn S30V or S110V?

It's been a while between drinks.

The last Military I bought was the REX45. :)

Those were the last I remember being produced seems like there were not any in 2019.

Guess they are all in on the Military2 which is good hopefully they change the base steel to either Spy27 or S45VN.

Hopefully we get some fully serrated Militaries as well as combo blades.

Ouch can feel the wallet creaking over all the steel variants to come all over again :)

Hey Does, I've been fairly vocal on my views of the Military so I won't bang on further here.

Suffice to say, I sincerely hope those that want a knife similar to the Mighty Military with eighteen way carry clip, Chinese Puzzle Lock with high compression, contoured Mammoth Bone scales with gold inlay, a blade steel that makes Maxamet look like plasticine and a Baby Seal Fur pouch to carry it in, or whatever else they may fancy and all for a $1.80, get just what they want and all their dreams come true ... I won't be buying one. ;)

Still patiently awaiting a Maxamet Military. :)
