Is the Siren a Salt?
What a nice surprise to see the Siren in the reveal... When I heard rumors of a LC200N lock-back I immediately thought “FFG Pacific Salt”.
The Siren appears to tick all the boxes for me...
One question though, is it a member of the Salt family (i.e. completely rust proof)? I assume so, but this has not been explicitly stated in any of the marketing material.
Maybe Lance can enlighten us?
B.t.w. congrats on having your design on the shelves Lance! :spyder:

Re: Is the Siren a Salt?
The description on the app says it has a secure grip for wet conditions. It's not listed as a Salt, but it has to be corrosion-resistant throughout. Otherwise, what's the point?
As an aside, the app also says it weighs 81,977 ounces.

Re: Is the Siren a Salt?
The intro to the Reveal calls it a 'Salt series collaboration with Lance Clinton'.
The description of the Siren calls it 'ultra corrosion resistant', rather than rustproof.
If you search for threads on LC200N, Lance has discussed the extreme corrosion resistance of the steel before, in conditions most of us will likely never see.

Re: Is the Siren a Salt?
Construction looks like the Native Chief, meaning no liners. Which unfortunately makes it a no-go for me, but obviously other than screws and Pivot, nothing else will rust, assuming the lock is LC200N as well.

If it's a Lance Clinton design, then I'm sure it's 100% Salt.

I was going to get a Native Chief for Christmas, but this has taken its place.

I’m hopeful it doesn’t have liners.

I wasn't planning on any new spyderco knives. Then this popped up. I'm buying this.

Re: Is the Siren a Salt?
Thanks for the nice words everyone. I feel very honored to have Spyderco produce this design! It is indeed a linerless knife and was designed to have the rustproof qualities of other lockback Salt knives.
Re: Is the Siren a Salt?
Yes, the Siren is part of the Salt Series. :D
There is nothing more important than this one day.

It looks well designed Lance. Excited to give it a try.Surfingringo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 11:42 amThanks for the nice words everyone. I feel very honored to have Spyderco produce this design! On my list because of the design and designer.

Thanks vivi, actually I thought of you many times during this process because I have read so many of your posts and felt like this knife was going to check a lot of boxes for you.Vivi wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2019 12:23 pmIt looks well designed Lance. Pre-Ordered! A waved version of this would be super cool too. Just tweak the wave to better open bottles!

Lance, is the grip area on the Siren any longer than the grip area of the SpydieChef?

Re: Is the Siren a Salt?
Thanks for the confirmation Lance and Taz.
I’m especially happy to see this is a Golden Co lockback.
The narrow pointy blade will be a handy LC200N option to have alongside the Spydiechef.

Re: Is the Siren a Salt?
Really enjoying the Waterway, a great design. The LC has very good edge retention, sharpens easily, and now my favorite steel around saltwater. My wife and I were able to sneak offshore last week in the Keys, caught 13 tuna (all footballs) and 9 Mahi, none big all 24-25" to the fork. Waterway worked great for bleeding the tuna and as an all-round boat knife. A bit high priced as a bait knife, but gotta luv it. :D It stays in the holder when not in use. Trying not to lose this one. Had a Dexter go over on my son's boat a couple weeks back. Looking forward to the Siren. Love the wire clip.

Lance, congrats on a great design! I'll get this before / instead of the Chief for sure, and I even don't need the total rustproofness...

Re: Is the Siren a Salt?
I'll be getting at least two for myself and I have the feeling I'm going to be buying a handful of them for Christmas presents.

Lance, I'm a fellow kayak fisherman and really excited about this folder. I'm not too into fixed blades so I've been back and forth on the Waterway, but this folder is a GO for me!
