Thinking about an Endura

I love my p3s and pm2s. I very much like my hap40 Delica. Cutting my apple up at lunch just now made me realize a couple things.

1. The p3 and Delica are too short for a medium apple.
2. The p3 and pm2 are too tall and thick for apple cutting duty.

I sort of grasp the knife with my fingers and the pads of my hand in order to reach to other side of the apple with my thumb. Works fine with a paring knife, but not the p3.

The natural conclusion for the spydaflicted is to buy a new knife. I’m eyeing the Endura, but published blade thicknesses are all over the map from 1/8” down to the Cutlery Shoppe exclusive at 0.118”.

Are the specs being misadvertised, or are they really so varied? I’d like the thinnest version I can find. Are there thinner 3.5”+ models out there? Or maybe I just found a reason to carry a SAK...

If Sal sees this, can you share the planned thickness of the wharncliffe Endura?

All of the Endura's are 3mm thick. That's about .120. 1/8th is .125

That is good to know. When I read thickness in knives, for some reason when I see 2.0 or even 2.5 or below I think "too delicate, too flimsy". I tend to like 3.0 to 4.0 milimeter.

Police 4 is a slicing machine, and wood handle those freakishly large honeycrips with ease. Same stock as the Endura.

For Apples and fruit, consider the Stretch, too. Endura is great, but I think of it more like a Steak/Meat knife. They both come with ZDP, great steel in the kitchen.

The Police is great for halving large apples with a single push cut. The geometry is great too, full flat grind, 3mm stock, full distal taper. It's one of few Spydercos in that size that will readily outcut a Military.

You're talking ffg, right? I just got my first endura and it's the hollow ground / not ffg one, it's got a much thicker blade spine.

You can pick up a serrated police 3 for cheap these days, its probably one of the best 'fruit' knives available !

Of course the police 4 looks awesome but its double the price.

I say grab yourself an endura and try it out! You can always drop the bevel angle too. If it isn't slicy enough, wait until the frn police 4 comes out

Definately ffg. Impressed I can still find retail pricing on the V-toku2 and hap40. I’m pretty happy with hap40. Have not been able to try V...2 yet. Decisions! Need to sell that zt301 first though...

I tried para 3ing my Apple yesterday and it’s more like splitting wood, works well enough though-
I’ll chuck out a military as an option too,
Totally outside of my wheelhouse but it’s pretty great

That’s an apt description of using the p3 on an apple :p
I “assume” the military spine is at least as thick as the p3, but I’ll have to go look it up. The pricing is up there enough I think I’d rather go with another p3, the cf/52100 sprint instead!

I think I’d prefer to reserve SE blades for the Salt series. I’m awful curious about this police frn in the pipe though.

Leaning towards V-toku2...

As a long time Endura owner, I say that you should get one. For the money you will not beat it in the size range. I have large hands so the first finger bump on the handle I smoothed out. Feels really good, now.

I finally got around to getting another Endura after selling one a few years ago. My PM2 is more fun to play with, but I prefer the size and weight of the Endura. It is just a more practical knife for me. I didn't really understand how good that knife is until I carried others. I don't think you'll be disappointed (I got the Cutlery Shoppe version).

Also, the endura is classic Spyderco. If you're going to own more knives than you need, one of them should be an endura. I recommend finding a hap40 variant.

Would you pick hap40 over V-toku2? I have the Delica wharnie in hap40, I like it. Guess I’m waffling at this point between the V...2 and the CS exclusive.
