I don't make any attempt to collect steels...but I have ended up with a decent variety by buying knives for different purposes.

Here's what's in my collection:

420C, 440C, VG10, S30V, CTS204P, 1095, A2, S7, H1, CTSBD1, VG1, AUS8, D2, 8CR13MoV, 12C27, O1, 1.4110, 4116....I think that covers it.

Some steels I used to own.....S90V, BG42, S60V, INFI, 1085, 52100, 154CM, CPM154, ATS55, 14C28N, SK5, Carbon V, CPMD2, M4, AUS6, AUS10, Ti, ZDP189 and a couple others I'm forgetting.

More than I need, but still open to more.

Sad that the Mule Team program is in limbo for now. On the other hand, it's nice that a lot of new steels are available in popular folders.

I have my spreadsheet handy so I'll copy and paste, it looks like M4 and M390 are the most frequent at 12 and 13, followed by S110V at 7

These are the ones I'm sure of. I have other knives that, depending on when they were made and by whom, vary in the steels used (in both carbon and stainless steels).

Oh, well, to me it's the best, but I am not self-centered enough to think that it's the best for everyone, everywhere, and every need... :D

plus, in PE it's certainly lacking compared to many others :o

Water Bug, that is a very neat list, thank you! Regarding BG-42, how do you like its performance for everyday type cutting chores, in comparison to some of the other steel?

Updated my list to look like y'alls' and added 9cr18mov becuase I ordered one of those CIVIVI knives made by WE.
