PPT or Yojimbo 2 - which do you prefer?

I like both knives.

Im not a collector in the sense, that I dont buy all variations of one pattern and stick them in the safe.

I buy my knives to use and as I would hate to be without at least one of my favorite knives, I bought a spare of some of my favorites.

When first I handled a PPT, I thought it couldnt get much better.

It then was pushdd from use by a Southard. Have to get one more of those as a spare.

With a bunch of different Spyderco knives, I then later bought a Yojimbo 2. Its ergos are great.

I honestly cant say, Id pick the PPT over the Yojimbo or vice versa.

I like them both equally.

Anybody else got one of these ... ?

I don't have a ppt but had a street bowie and didn't care for the feel in hand at all so I returned it. I have a yojimbo 2 and find it fits in the hand awesomely.

I heartedly recommend the PPT.

The Street Bowie.... and the Street Beat ... are amongst my favorite production fixed knives.

I find, I have a very positive grip due to the 'Perrin divot' and really like the design.

Very positive grip.

Ive never seen a Perrin knife, I didnt like.

Now, if only Spyderco would make a Street Bowie with the upscale handle of the Street Beat.

"But it will cost more."

I dont care, I would just like one - is it too much to ask!! :D :D :D

Yojimbo lock would pinch my finger. Sold it. Still have the PPT original, DLC Sprint, and CF Sprint.

I dont get pinched (or rather cant say, that it hasnt happened but its no problem).

Maybe if an owner took down the lock a bit, it wouldnt be a problem.

The lock part against which one presses with the finger of course - not any vital locking part.

There seems to be plenty of material there, to ensure positive 'unlocking'/closing of the blade.

Yo 2 because I like the handle better. I would be very interested in a Yo 2 with just a wee bit of belly similar to a Delica or Manix 2 though, that would be the best of both worlds.

Yes, the Yojimbo has great ergonomics.

It is straight as an arrow - thats what makes it a great cardboard slicer though :-)

Id assume, even a little bit of belly would mean a major re-design due to the existing design.

Oh I love the wharnie as is but the handle design is so good it's a shame to not make other versions of it. It would be great for a more general purpose shaped blade, basically like the PPT.

I agree; the Yojimbo shape is pretty awesome - Id like to see its influence in other Spyderco knife models as well.

But the question is, if its too weird a shape for most (Spyderco) buyers.

I remember my own thoughts prior to buying; I found it odd looking - but took a chance and couldnt be happier.

In fact, I find it rakish looking. Ergos, as mentioned, are great.

I went from finding it odd to liking it a lot but have a sneaking suspecion, that many find it ungainly just from looking at it.

Then again, I do suppose the Yojimbo must sell well, as its still made and with the sprint run and all.

I need a Ronin BTW :-)

The Perrin is like a renaissance expression of a knife. The Yojimbo looks like it was stolen from a Klingon garage sale. I like it.

I like the Yojimbo 2 better for being lighter, having more cutting edge, having more handle visible when clipped to a pocket, and being comp lock instead of frame lock. I carry the Ronin 2 every week and it's a great EDC.

I'd take the steeet beat over them both :)

Dont know what to say to that

.....except maybe you are right :)

The PPT has a touch of seax to boot.

The Street Beat is a fantastic knife and one of my favorites.

That being said, I need to get a Ronin 2.

Price isnt bad and its blade is a tad longer than the Yojimbo 2.

Also thinner than the Yojimbo 2 in both blade and handle.

Sorry but I'm not very familiar with the PPT but I notice the top blade has a very different ricasso compared to the one below it and no spider. Different versions over the year?

Also, thanks for posting pics of knives that obviously get used!

I like FFG blades as well.

But for its intended purpose, I guess the grind of the Yojimbo makes a lot of sense.

Both are mean cardboard box cutters :D

Well spotted. The PPT has been thinned out even further after it left the factory - not a Spyderco job.

Thx.
My knives are mostly users but of the ones pictured, I like to keep one as a spare, as I like them all and wouldnt want to be without at least one.

The bottom two have oil and dust on them. Should have wiped them for the pic.

Cool. I bet that thinned one is a slicing beast.
