Regarding the liner locks used on the Byrd knife line: Can I rest assured that this lock will hold the blade open as long as I am not abusing it or putting too much unnecessary stress on it, and it will not snap closed and cut me?

being up to Spyderco Quality standards, I'd bet it will :spyder:

ETA: I also had a few bad experiences with liner-locks, but they were inferior products in all regards and all Chinese made, and also inexpensive framelocks have failed me at least twice.

None were Spyderco/Byrd and I have never had problems with my liner locks from Sal & Co.

In fact they are way more secure and confidence-inspiring in hand than any of my Kershaw, ShuangRong, SRM, Enlan, and most other companies out there that I've tried.

Only once in my life so far has a lock "failed" me, that was a CRKT frame lock, it got pocket lint in it and didn't lock fully. No harm done since i spotted it it in time, i also don't point my finger at CRKT but that was my only experience with a locking folder not "working"

Thank you for the great and assuring responses everyone and sal thank you so much.

I am very excited about the Byrd Raven 2 with the BD1 steel blade, I have never experienced using that one.
And even more so, after reading about the likely use of BD1N with nitrogen in the alloy.

Not really. I once had a bad experience with liner locks but it was only for one time. Other than that, they worked fine for me.

I think they are as good as any spydie in terms of reliability. Same people are designing them, so why worry? Check out a raven 2, as good as any liner lock i have had before.
