#1

Post by chuck_roxas45 »

i have an endura FRN with the black clip, is there any way to polish the clip so it would look like stainless steel? can i just use metal polish to strip the black coat off?

You'll probably have to use somehting abrasive and then move on to metal polish thats how i usually do it. Wire wheel or Scotch brite pad and then dremel with cloth wheel and jewelers rouge.

Do this, and it will look like it came from Tiffany's

Here is what I did, and it looks the same as the polished clips.

1. Get a spray can of paint remover from hadrware store Spray some on wait a few minutes and rinse and dry clip.

2. Rub with a Scotchbrite pad

3. Then use some 800 grit sand paper, and finish with 2000 grit.

4. Use some metal polish.

Done! You can buy all of the things for this at Wal-Mart

The paint will wipe right off the clip with the paint remover.

Total time it took me: 30 minutes.

Use some rubber gloves while using the paint remover.

Good Luck!

Pays to keep in mind that, with the exception of H-1 and similar "exotics" that are technically not even steel, "high end" stainless blade steels tend to be far less "stainless" than the types of stainless steel you find in handles, hardware, and clips. That stuff is about as rust resistant as the stainless used for tableware.

When's the last time you found rust on a spoon, fork, or table knife? Those things occasionally get dumped in a sink coated with food that's saltier than the ocean and acidic for good measure. They are sometimes left there for hours, or even days if you're as bad a housekeeper as me. After they finally get washed, they're sometimes left to air dry. And nobody ever worries about what to coat them with to prevent rust. ;) :D

Mine never have, and if they ever did, just polish it off with metal polish, or any number of things.

I doubt it will rust.

Go for it, they look wonderful polished. I do not like the black clips.

i used acatone to remove the black paint from my clips. i just soaked a paper towel and gave it a quick rubdown. with a little care, you can leave the black in the spider, which looks pretty cool. i didn't polish mine afterwards, i like the factory sandblasted finish underneath, and its not so obvious against feded jeans.http://Image

A big thank you to sharpguitarist. I took some acetone to my clip and made it look like this. I kinda of like the sandblasted look against the green. I'm not sure if I polish it up or not.

What you can polish is the underside of the clip so it slides in and out of your pocket nice and smooth. Just a light buff with the brown Scotch Brite.

Looks good, I like that look, too.

You can add the black in with a sharpie, then lightly re-wipe with acatone.

Good thread on the issue. Kleen Strip stripper used - WM.

And mine, I used a Sharpie on the logo and rubbed the extra off with my thumb, it has held so far.

You could order a clip for the Adventura - C102 it's stainless steel and will fit the Endura...the screws won't, but the clip will.

I bought some "Extra Strength" "Heavy-bodied, semi-paste, paint, varnish, and stain remover" from ACE and sprayed the clips on my Para and Native with it and it didnt even pretend to touch the coating.. I ended up letting it sit on there for 4 hrs and it didnt phase it..

i tried a couple of things that didn't work: my wifes fingernail polish remover and clear brake fluid, neither worked after a long soak. straight acetone took it right off!
