Screw the Bushcraft, give us the Spyderco katana!

I was just reading a bit about Japanese swords on wikipedia and dropped by the forum to see how many requests there have been for a Spyderco made katana over the years... and I can't find a single one! Despite requests for tomahawks, bottle openers and other strange objects

Maybe I'm blind, because somehow I figured this was the ultimate wet dream of many :spyder: -nuts. Just think about the zombie-slashing capabilities of such a thing!

Now there's just the issue of figuring out which materials to use. I'm guessing some kinda tool steel would be best suited? D2 perhaps? Rayskin a la the Kumo is obviously a must for the handle.

So Sal, how soon can you start production?

Were knuts, no doubt about that, but alot of market minded realists hang out here too, so a Katana is prolly the last thing we'd expect from spyderco IMHO. Those blades were mostly used for Killing, not much Utility. Again, IMHO, thats not really the image we want to project. On the other hand, there are LOTS of perfectly good Japanese Kitchen Designs and Outdoor blades that might take root one day.

:) Anyway, aside from that, I really like reading and studying all the cool aspects and attributes of the Japanese Blade Cultures of old. It is a very interesting topic indeed.

Cheers

Making one to Spyderco specs and quality levels would probably price it out of the range of a bunch of us. I don't see it.

High performance matter separators yes. swords, no.

When did Spyderco ever think about making swords????....Ahhhhhh.....I don't think it's on the list to be made real soon...bout the closest thing you'll find that slices like a sword would be the Rock Salt, that being said if they made one with a Ray skin wrap...I'd be the first in line to buy one.....Doc :D

Maybe not a sword, but a 10 inch or so long fixed blade would be nice.

Wasn't the Spyderco Lum Tanto a katana style blade?
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

Traditional Katana sharpening and polishing video.

It's a bit long and grainy...but jeez it was interesting to me.
Picking out favourite rouge stones, colouring in an entire blade with a pencil....amazing stuff
