I agree with you. The parts that aren't washed out look nice and crisp though.

Well, I do 'worry' about it. That is why I post a test, to get feedback on aspects I might have overlooked. I appreciate your comments as it challenges me to try and make the images come out better. Mind you, I'm a self taught amateur who is looking for a single set-up solution to quickly process a few hundred images...

This final test focused on preventing the 'blending' problem as much as I can, and also to practice some more 'trick shots' that highlight the cool details of these knives.

I'm not sure what changes you made but the washed out look is gone. Nice! Seriously psyched for your Amsterdam thread. Thanks!

Looks great. The military really pops better now. Only one is the third pic of the s110v pm2. The blade is blending Into the white background a little.

It was mainly a matter of paying attention to the little shadows when taking the photo, thanks for checking it out.

Yep, I tried a lot of things, but it seems that flat ground s110v is a real mother to shoot in my current set-up. But this pic did result in a fine shadow line to mark the spine against the background, so I went with it. I had a similar problem last year with some concept models that are basically custom knives. The fine hand polish of a custom blade can be so fine, that my previous camera sometimes had trouble to focus on it - the camera just couldn't seem to 'grab on' to the blade to fine focus it. I can do it manually now if I have too.

Hey I seem to recall that sometimes you list a knife's dimensions in your pic threads, but would it be possible to show the knives with a ruler or something for scale? There are a few models that I'm hoping you get pics of and I'm really trying to get an idea of how big they are.

He uses a trinket, you figure out how big it is by seeing it next to a knife you know, then you can get an idea of the scale of the rest of the objects.

Not that you need tips from me, but:

One trick I use is hold down the half press the button to get it to set the focus, then I can move it in or out a little bit to make sure the part I want focused is where I want it. You can use the focus check, but sometimes that makes it even tougher.

Some times the weird angle shots come out better than I think they would.

Also, one of my secrets is a Zebralight H60N. I think that's the model number. I have an overhead light on, then I fill with the headlamp. Maybe I'm cheating. I'm sure there are better lighting tricks that can be used, but I know an easily movable light helps out a LOT, especially for trying to cast shadows.

That's indeed what I do, and I also include all the measurements we can take off a prototype and I try to include a shot of the proto in hand.

The Yo2 looks good with the black clip.
I'm surprised there hasn't been an all black production version added, like the Pm2 or manix xl
