Eric has discussed the possibility of a custom shop with the Golden Knife-Makers and they seem to like the idea. We'll see what the future holds.

Caly 2.5" would be very interesting - slots right in between the Dragonfly and Calypso Jr.

No one has ever started a thread on this forum saying they wish Spyderco had a custom shop, not even me.

OK, it's not an announcement about a new product, but still an interesting factoid...cranking out nearly a quarter million knives yearly? Wow.

LOL ^ Only in April, June, September and November. In other months you'd need to hail other entities.

I wish they did. But the knife modification industry has filled in the gap and some of my own tinkering

It was a bit of sarcasm. This comes up every couple of months. I also wish they had a custom shop. I could get some personalized Spydercos.

The casual bomshell’s are few and far between these days but they still drop every now and again!

From the thread “So, Sal, is the Caly3 model doomed ?!

Hi Marius,

Thanx for the kind words to you and others on the Caly family design. Yes, it has been a personal design family for me.

We have quite a few designs planned for the maker, which does include a remake of the Caly 3. There is also a Caly 3.5 in FRN (the original Caly 3.5 in CF is still in production). There is a Caly 4 and a Caly 3.5 design to be a smaller pendant series (slip-joint) with different handle materials. Production will be limited and slower as they are a smaller house with limited capacity.

The mention of a Pendant Series Caly 3.5 particularly piqued my interest! :respect :bug-red

I’m interested in what a pedant version of the Caly 3.5 is or means, is it too small to grip in the standard choil Caly grip? Is it just for a display or necklace wearing pendant shaped like the Caly?
very curious

It's a fully functional mini knife, made to be worn on a necklace. Here's the Police version, the blade is 1.25":

That’s what I figured it meant. But I struggle to imagine how they adapted the Caly handle shape this way with the choil and how it’ll function ergonomically, maybe 2 finger grooves ?
Doesn’t seem intended to be a fully functional knife even if the blade does fold open and cut, it’s a classy apparel piece to me. If I want a knife that functions to cut I wanna grab it from being clipped to the top of a pocket it not unclasp it up close to my neck.

The whole point is for to be jewelry. It’s just cool that it’s scaled down to the size of a necklace pendant but still functions like a full sized knife.

I personally wouldn’t use it if I pick one up. Like you said it’s jewelry. Fully functional knives are made for the pocket IMO

Sounds good!

It’s not intended to replace or be used as a primary knife. It’s a novelty piece of jewelry. The fact that it’s ground and functions is just cooler than if it didn’t function.

Totally agree. It’s novelty of this fact that makes it very unique and special.

Like you, I was trying to parse Sal's Caly comments. (I don't want to "Hey Sal" him, or badger him to answer questions on a forum, not cool.) But regards the following:

Production will be limited and slower as they are a smaller house with limited capacity....

... I had questions: The Caly 3.5 is the only FRN version reappearing, or will the 3 also be available in FRN (in which case, sort of a reboot of the Caly Jr)? Assume the Caly 4 is a 4" blade, that might be a reboot of the original Calypso C54? And then a pendant knife where (I'm guessing) 3.5 does not refer to the blade length, but a mini 'jewelry' decorative version of the 3.5?

Looking forward to it.

I'm definitely interested in 3.5 FRN and 4. I'll even be greedy and hope sales justify a 4 FRN (unlikely?)

Can’t wait to see the new big Caly. I hope there’s enough afi’s on board now to carry the sales so the family is more prioritized in the line up.
