My first was this LadyBug. It now sits in retirement with many others. I have many others I use instead now.

My first was a lightly used Native 1 in 440V. Super smooth action and the first Spyderco that looked "right" to me. I have many, too many, more now.

Re: What was your 1st Spyderco?
First was a Para3 LW.
Been into knives for more than 65 years, but never cared for the looks of the Spyderco's. I read about the compression lock and wanted to fool with it. In playing around I discovered the great ergonomics and quality of the product. I went to eBay and watched an interview with the principals and decided this was the type of company I wanted to deal with. Since then I've been spending my kids inheritance and acquired some quality pieces.

My first Spyderco was a Para Military 2 (S30V, black handle, plain edge). I gave it to a friend when I got one in S110V. He's not 100% hooked on Spyderco (like I am), but still uses it.

Re: What was your 1st Spyderco?
My first Spyderco was an early Tenacious, don't know the date as it was a gift and time slips. I did not get 100% hooked until I started reading about powder steel, and steel being rust proof.
Spyderco: Tenacious G10, Waterway, Para 3 Spy27, Pacific Salt H1, Catcherman, In the Mule Team Stable(Z-Max, Z-Wear, S45VN, Magnacut, SRS13/SUS405, M398, Aeb-l, 15v)
Re: What was your 1st Spyderco?
My first Spyderco was a Sharpmaker bought in the 1980’s. It had a molded polyethylene base, no cover, and only one rod angle. I gave it to a friend after acquiring a 204 Sharpmaker.
My first Spyderco knife was a ZDP Delica 4 received as a gift from my dear father in 2007, which started my fascination with modern folders. I manually convexed that blade for better performance in cardboard; the saber grind upper transition hung up something fierce in corrugated.

So you actually did not convex the very apex (the edge) but the transition from primary bevel to the rectangular upper part of the sabre grind (or did you convex both?)Bill1170 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 11:00 pm.....

Re: What was your 1st Spyderco?
i have been collecting knives since around 96, with swiss and buck and cheapo knives. did not actually get into spending real money on knives until spyderco. i did the eagle scouts thing for a year when i was young and always have had a knife since then.Wartstein wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 12:01 amrabbitanarchy14 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 11:23 pma delica 3 back in 2000. then a delica 4 in 2012 started my spyderco craze.

Re: What was your 1st Spyderco?
I convexed the entire blade from spine to a zero edge, a classic hamaguri profile. It took me several days using diamond bench stones (plates, really) and then polishing on water stones. My dad was very impressed when I used it to trim 1 mm off the endgrain of a birch dowel rod. ZDP is ideal for such uses because of the way it can support a highly polished fine edge. Yes, it was a lot of work, but I was unhappy with the performance of the saber ground blade and figured that reprofiling it like a katana paid tribute to the great Japanese tradition underpinning both the steel and the knife made in Seki.Wartstein wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 11:06 pmSo you actually did not convex the very apex (the edge) but the transition from primary bevel to the rectangular upper part of the sabre grind (or did you convex both?)Bill1170 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 11:00 pm.....

The performance improvement was amazing, worth the effort.
