Copper itself maybe doesn't smell, but it reacts with Your sweat or something and creates some compound with a specific coppery/metallic smell. Playing semantics doesn't change the fact

Re: A copper spyderco
The smell of copper is the interaction of organic substances with the metal. But copper does have a unique smell, it just requires a little human or animal interaction.
As the very detailed article linked below states, "These results provide additional evidence that it is not metal evaporation, but skin lipid peroxide reduction and decomposition by low valence metal ions that produces the odorants."
Thank you Danke for expanding my horizons as I was interested in researching this issue further and learned something new.

Re: A copper spyderco
Ah, but truly, can more angels dance on the edge of a copper plated Ladybug blade than a copper plated Military blade? Does it matter if it is 15 degrees dps or 20 degrees dps? Will steel type make a difference in holding the copper plating? And what steel is best? Define best? How thin can the scales be made while still retaining their shape (weight reduction vs structural integrity). Should Spyderco use a classic design for a sprint run for increased interest in copper scales? (ATR please) Do copper scales look better with brushed stainless, high alloy tooled steel that can gain patina, or black DLC coated? (DLC coated please) These are the real questions.

Re: A copper spyderco
Copper scales need to be matched up with a tool steel that will form it's own patina. If it's the Raffir Noble sort of copper embedded in a clear matrix the a nice stainless steel is a good choice. Definitely no coating on the blade and a wire clip for less contrast.
Re: A copper spyderco
Just a bit of copper is often enough.

Just copper plating on a lighter handle material would be fine with me.kriezek wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 11:24 am... How thin can the scales be made while still retaining their shape (weight reduction vs structural integrity). .....

And: Sorry, but I am completely with Danke here: Copper scales imo just have to go with tool steel that will also form a patina...
