Talkin' Story:

I invented the Triangle Sharpmaker in 1978. I invented the Golden Stone/Webfoot (Duckfoot) at the same time. The technology wasn't there to make the design so it sat for many years. We made the "Pro-File" stones as a fill while technology was growing. Patented the Golden Stone concept some 20 odd years later.

When we were finally able to make the concept in a real product, it was the Duckfoot. We built a steel embryo and plated diamonds on to the Embryo. When the technology was there to make the Golden Stone, we made it. While it is quite expensive to make, it is a very unique concept. Then we added the Webfoot to compliment the fine grit stone, and we used CBN instead of diamonds. We finally made a fixture to hold both pieces at 30 degrees inclusive (15 per side).

Now, 45 years later, we are finally able to bring the concept to a production piece available to you. Persistence is King.

Gotta say, Sal, the packaging in which my Webfoot just arrived, including the base and instructions ALSO FOR my Goldenstone, nicely shrinkwraps what you say here.

Be careful, if you keep thinking up ingenious systems like this one, you might find yourself in charge of a fantastic company.

Said I, dreaming it was forty-five years ago.

Got mine today. I really like the base but I wish the sheath had some way of carrying it too all in one package.

Just received mine from DLT today. Nice packaging and what looks to be an informative booklet that I look forward to diving in to. I'm also eager to try the plastic base with both it and also with my Goldenstone. Should make for a pretty handy kit.

There's more darn CBN surfaces and angles on this thing than you can shake a stick at. I'm thinking it will be put to some pretty creative, and possibly unintended, uses by our forum members. It's noticeably gritty out of the box. I might have to do a little breaking in on some beater blades first.

I got curious and measured the angle of mine in and outside of the base and I'm getting almost perfect 15/20 degrees on the "thick side" and consistently around a half a degree more on the "bar side" at around 15.5/20.5. The angle difference seems to be in the Webfoot itself and not the base since the difference is the same in and out of the base. I guess it's possible that the surface I'm measuring on isn't perfect level but I did zero the cube between each measurement.

perfect. i don't know why this info isn't included in the specs on the product page. i'm trying to figure out if i want this or the double stuff for my hiking bag. i'm guessing the double stuff is lighter, but it doesn't have a weight listed either.

LB, my preference for hiking/camping is something you can hold in your hand versus something requiring a flat surface. I carry a Worksharp Field Sharpener, but have wanted to replace it with the CBN Double Stuff 2 for awhile.

can't you hold the webfoot in your hand the same way? i do like the dual grit idea though, and it's more compact.

If you can freehand there really isn't a need for something like this unless you want it for serrations, and even then you can probably get by with using the corner of the stone if it's not a super sharp edge.

I guess you can, but I just thought the ingenuity in the Webfoot is to rock it on a flat surface to achieve a 20 dps. If you are going to hold it in your hand, I would think the Double Stuff would be a better option. Plus the CBN version has the pronounced corners for serrations if you carry a serrated knife. Maybe if all you carry is a serrated while hiking or camping, a webfoot would be a better option. May be easier with serrations than the double stuff. I haven't used either. I'm kinda judging by what I use and thinking a small flat CBN version would be ideal.

yes. i would use it the standard way when possible, but could still use it freehand in the field in a pinch. i'll probably just go with the ds2 though.

i do wish the ds2 was cbn and med ceramic instead of fine. i rarely use the fine rods on my sm these days because i'm happy with the slightly toothy edge the med ceramic gives me.

The problem I have with the DS2 is holding it. It takes practice to use it safely and even then don't get complacent or it will bite you in the ***.
