i think someone around here has made a case once or twice for all sd folders to be released as salt models.

For sure you are spot on. No argument from me what so ever. And I'm not exactly sure as to why so many folders in the SD sector are desired to be in the SALT series. But in the case of the C-60 Ayoob in particular it also has great versatility as an all around great EDC folder for a wide range of everyday uses.

And there is a common denominator thread for most all of the models in the Salt Series. And I can see why the C-60 model could fit in very well.

To me, it's straightforward: Salt equals low maintenance. This makes a lot of sense for the SD item you want to carry every day in any situation.

Also as Ladybug pointed out in one of those threads, the Matriarch, with its delicate tip, would only gain from an H2 treatment :)

Where are all the Cruwear Ayoobs? We rarely see anyone actually carry them on here.

It's my every Sunday go to church carry! But I'm actually carrying it here today at work.

good memory. that's one of the handful of points i've made begging for salt as knives, such as the matriarch 2. :)

i'm very glad to have my ayoob, but i rarely carry it because it's a reminder to me of the disappointment surrounding the whole thing. maybe i'll carry it tomorrow... i do like the design a lot.

Well I can only speak for myself>> but on my recent Birthday I carried my SE version all that day. And on the following day I was even carrying and showing off my PE version>> and got a few compliments by the way.

Now I'll admit that I don't use my two Cruwear Ayoob models on harsh demanding jobs like I do with my M390 Military or my ancient Stainless handled RESCUE full SE (ATS-55 era). But both my C-60 Cruwear Ayoobs do get some carry time on occasions. If I could find a backup to my SE version I would probably rotate it frequently with my M390 Military. I'll snag another one eventually. It's one of my immediate goals.

Trust me the Cruwear Ayoob fans are out there. The C-60 does have a group of dedicated fans to be sure for the Cruwear and VG-10 models.

By the way BenBen I can't remember if you got both the PE & SE? I hope you did get them both. Didn't you also have one of the older VG-10 models as well? You were one of the really early constant contributors to this thread so I assume you are an avid fan of this great model.

Just the serrated sprint, and an older Almite VG-10 plain edge that I lucked up and found at a gun show.

I picked up a Serrated Cruwear one off Bladeforums exchange that had extremely poorly ground serrations which where so bad it resembles a wavy chisel ground edge. The action is phenomenal and it cuts like a laser. Use it for farm chores / edc in tandem with a plain edge one I reset to 15 degrees with a medium 1K grit diamond stone edge. Love both of my Cruwear Ayoobs and carry them nearly every day since I got the plain edge new.

Going to make a short exception and carry the new St Nicks LW Manix 4V red/black knife for a few days until after Christmas teaming it with my Lil Temperance one with the green G10.. Whole Red/Green vibe here. Maybe just need some duct tape involved...

I would take one of those poorly grinded SE models in a heartbeat. Because for a "user" I really don't care about looks so much. If I were to land one of those poorly grinded SE Cruwear C-60 I might even be tempted to semi-retire my Stainless RESCUE model that I just can't seem to put down.

I didn't get to partake in the factory seconds sale and I never heard whether or not they had any of those with the grind problem. But I'm sure one will surface eventually. I haven't come across a serrated VG-10 version in about 6 years now. Albeit the 2011 PE, G-10 versions are the hardest to find at this time.

I would be open to any ideas for a lightweight model but I just can't even imagine a C-60 model in FRN.
Well, that'd be a Salt C-60, wouldn't it?

Wasn't a fan of FRN at first but it's made me a believer. I'd buy a FRN Ayoob. MB two ;)
OK you all know that I've been fond of the idea of a SALT version of the C-60 for some time now. I've let that be known for well over a year at least. But I'm having some difficultly understanding why any SALT version of any model would absolutely have to have an FRN handle.

I wouldn't want an FRN handle on a SALT version of the C-60. No!! I would want a yellow and/or black G-10 handle. And sure I would be all for one of the corrosion resistant steels such as LC200N or any other reputable nitrogen based blade steel.

Albeit with all that said I would consider other suggestions. But the C-60 I don't think would fare well with an FRN handle. That's just my 2 cents. What say you all in regards to a possible SALT version of the C-60???

Joe,

If I ever buy any knives again, I would love to see a Salt version of the C-60, preferably with a linerless G10 handle. Especially if they can make the blade grind and the edge bevels thinner/less obtuse than what I've heard some of the sprint versions were like. An SE version would be amazing.

I'm not sure if it would be possible, though. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Moki, the maker of the C-60, doesn't make Salt models or use Salt steels. BUT, as you yourself have shown with this thread, maybe if enough people want it, it can become a reality.

Jim

The SE factory seconds I've seen had some really wonky edges. As said above, they weren't really serrated, just wavy. I'm sure they are plenty sharp, but given the angles, resharpening won't be easy. Evil D talked about this in his thread, back before it became too annoying and frustrating for him on here, which is a real shame.

I remember that now, especially towards the blade tips. I wonder why? I don't think that was ever mentioned as a problem in the original C-60s. Didn't they also change the blade grind from a hollow grind to a thick, flat saber grind? I wonder if the increased thickness, combined with the blade's upward curvature, affected the SE grind on the sprint?

That is something to deeply consider. Because when the first SE models of the C60 Sprint Run came to surface I was blown away at all the complaints that were coming forth.

I'm just a bit confused by your suggestion. All of my past VG-10 and current Cruwear C-60 Ayoob models are at an ideal weight for everything I've ever used them for. But I'm sure there are going to be people that have varied desires concerning weight and other features. For all intent and purposes I think that the 2011 model with G-10 scales and the Cruwear model with G-10 handle material are both nice to use IMO.

Now I certainly wouldn't be opposed to a Micarta version of the C-60 at some point. I'm all ears as to which modifications would make the C-60 Ayoob more ideal?
I thought you were proposing a lighter material, and I agreed. I'd be good with a Micarta/Terotuf handle on the regular C-60/ Love the cruwear version (have PE and SE versions and a misground SE from a seconds sales).
Have you held the crucarta PM2? it is glorious, feels great in hand.

Well DEF the more I think about it the more a Titanium handle for the C-60 is really sounding good to me. Not only is Titanium relatively light among handle materials it's extremely durable as well. As classy as the C-60 Ayoob has been over the years I think it would do nicely with a Titanium handle.
With all the current hype of Titanium cell phones out there I think the market could be potentially great for a C-60 with a Ti handle. It sure is worth some consideration. What say you all???

Are you interested in straight titanium or some kind of material on top of titanium?
