For what it's worth REC posted on their Facebook page that they did not get their "full" order of Manix knifes. They were debating on waiting until they had more to release or to sell what they had.

It sounds like they made so many, distributed them. Not sure if they will make more to give out for a second round or not. I would love to know how many they are making overall.
Sprint Runs are supposed to be 1 & done. Meaning, however many are manufactured for the run is it. Whether distributors dribble them out or drop their allotment at once, whatever was made, that's it. Distributor exclusives kinda follow same suit but they reserve the right to make a 2nd or 3rd run. Probably depending on popularity.
The only odd thing, or consistent, was that many dealers seemed to have only 5 to sell.

This is certainly a tough one. I have gotten various email notices of being in stock, but I think you have to respond to the beep on your phone and get there in seconds or they are out of stock. If I had my phone set up to beep on every email arrival, I would go crazy. It just ain't worth it. I'm almost tempted to give business to the Ebay scalpers, but I really don't NEED another Manix 2. But this is certainly a nice one, an interesting steel, and a great price (in theory at least, for those clever enough to snag one).

Doesn't help even management makes unnecessary comments in the alert thread 🤣
I assume people comment in that thread because their phone doesn't beep every time someone comments. Thankfully I've got my 2 already and don't get woken up by people commenting up the alert thread at 6am.

you can set up a beep for the alerts?! i have no idea how to internet apparently.

smkw had them in stock for long enough for me to order, comment here, and then go back and see them still in stock a little later. maybe the demand is slowing down finally and it will be easier to get them from now on. who knows how many we can still expect to show up though.

Who ever said this was an alert thread? The first posting simply says:

"Lets just start a thread to talk about it."

I suppose people who have somehow set this up to alert them have begun to use it as such..... I wonder how that works.

There’s another thread specifically for alerts.

If supply catches up with demand, I may try one. I don't currently have a Manix, and this one looks great. I don't think I'd do well sharpening it though, but then again it probably wouldn't need it for quite some time.

They were in stock at SMKW this morning for about an hour. Most drops have lasted about 10 minutes.

Every Spyderco AD gets a qty of 5 for sprint runs. Whether they get more, and how many, depends on the size of the run and demand from dealers (The size of the dealer and how many each dealer requested plays into how they get distributed).

You sure can!

First go to the thread you want to follow and open it and scroll to the bottom of the thread and look for the Wrench Icon.

Image

Open that up and click "Subscribe to topic"
Image

Next youre going to want to go to your 'User Control Panel'...
Image

Under the 'Profile' tab select 'Edit Account Settings' and where it says EMAIL enter your Email address.
Image

Next go to the 'Board Preferences' tab and select 'Edit notification options'
Image

Scroll on down to the section that says "Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed" and be sure to check the notification and email Boxes.
Image

Now you should receive an email when ever someome replies to the Alert thread (or any topic you subscribe to).

The next step can vary depending on your phone, but generically if you use an app like Outlook for your email. Long press the app icon on your phone, go to the notification settings and set it to alert you with the ringtone of your choice when you receive an email.

Now you will get an alert not only for all your junk emails, but for every time someone replies to the alert thread! I recommend turning this off after you score your knife.

Wow! Thanks for all of that. And explained in enough detail that even I can manage it!!

I suppose that I could subscribe thusly to both this thread as well as the "official" alert thread.

Thanks, and wish me luck.

thanks for the tips. i just found out about the wrench from earlier in this drop. previously, i thought you had to post a reply and request to be notified of subsequent responses. i'm already set up for email notifications too. i just didn't realize people were setting up their emails to ring on their phones. that would drive me insane... i never have noises turned on on my phone and i get too many emails every day to have something like that on. i'll just keep checking back throughout the day like i have been.

OK, success.

Thanks to all who helped. I took my first look at the alert thread, it mentioned a 199 offer from an Ebay seller with 100 percent feedback and claiming to be an "authorized reseller" and jumped on it. Free shipping. Someone came into the thread to say the seller was legit for him on a prior sale.

Ebay tells me it is "on the way"

199 is a minor premium over the retail price, but much better than the 299 scalper prices.

So I'll say thanks here rather than abusing the alert thread.

Yea I had a good experience buying from that seller. He was very open and quick to respond when I asked him a question. The knife was well packaged (better than most ebay sellers I've encountered) and shipped quickly.

A bit of a shame it's marked up, but it's a better price than the rest of the 15V for sale there.

Mine also arrived, but the secondary bevel is HUGE on the show side. I’m going to try for another, hoping for a smaller BTE, since I’m not willing to pay for a pricey regrind.
