Police G10 or Endura?

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

Hi Folks,

For those of you who have experience with the Police G10 and the Endura, which do you prefer and why?

Thanks,

Doc

Personally, I prefer the G10 Endura. The Police is marginally better at piercing, but the Endura cuts better. Though both are very similar knives.

I know this will go counter to what a lot of folks around here feel but I am a big fan of the FRN knives over G-10.

Still love my Millie and Para but imo the FRN Spydies seem so tight.
On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.

Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

I have both and prefer to carry the Endura, plus the 50% price tag helps. :)

I was about the pull the trigger on an FRN Endura (if I could find a G10 at a good price though...) and then thought of the Police G10. They are very similar, so I wanted to get some opinions from you all.

I own several endura's and a g10 police 3,
gotta say I like the Endura better.
Don't get me wrong, I love every police model.
It's just that the police can be a bit cumbersome, has less control than the Endura, will scare non-knife folks shitless, has lower tip strength than the Endura so isn't up for all tasks, higher weight, higher pocket carry, and you just have to have and love the classics like the Endura, Delica, PM2, Dragonfly, etc.

Need I say more? :p

I love the Police G 10, but the blade is so thin, I'm skeptical. If a tactical blade is full flat ground, in my opinion, it should be 4 mm thick, like the Street Beat. You'll never regret buying the Police G10, unless you thrust it into the rib cage of a giant, angry dog and the blade breaks on a bone. By the way, I love dogs. This is just an example, if you are being attacked etc... I recommend the yellow Pacific Salt for social events, because it's cheerful, the plain edge Police G 10 as an emergency surgical knife, because it's thin and the Street Bowie for travel to dangerous places. (The Street Beat is too small and slippery for me.) Now you have an excuse to collect all three.

I do think the Endura is a better value. I guess I was over thinking the issue after I saw the Police.

Between those 2 great models I would just say which ever one feels the best in your individual hand. I've owned three of the G-10 Police models>> two of the first generation ATS-55, G-10 Police and one of the newer VG-10 models and they are great. I've never owned a G-10 Endura but I've heard good about them.

Again both models are well made and both are available in SE & PE which is important to me. If you can get a chance to test drive one of the G-10 Sprint Ayoob models I would highly encourage you to do so. To me the Ayoob blade is just a bit more ergonomic for most cutting jobs.

The Endura was my first ever Spydie, wich adds to the value for me, but it's a fantastic blade nontheless.
One of the better suited knives in any situation, big enough to be up for any task and small enough to not be seen as a serial killer xD

Both are excellent choices, performance wise I can't see no particular difference.
It all depends whether you are are a fan of the 50/50-Choil.
If so, the Police might be your choice.
If not, take the Endura G-10 if you can get one.
It's a discontinued model that can be pretty hard to find in NIB.

The Police3 is my favorite EDC, the only things i would change on it are a better blade steel and a rougher g10 texture.
I own quite a bunch of Spydies yet this is one of my most carried, due to the blade thinness it performs well in the kitchen and for various EDC tasks and is very confortable both in hand and pocket.
I wouldnt use it as an SD knife though as the tip would bend or break on heavy stabs against bones.
One thing to note also is the lockback on this one is rather stiff and very secure due to the long lockbar and heavier spring not quite as the Chinook1 but still hard to flick, the sheer length of this knife doesnt help if you got small hands ( i dont but it still required me to train a bit to feel confident ).
This is the only knife allowing tip up carry that i use only tip down, i just cant open it and close it fluently as tip up, while my ZT0200 is tip up and all is well.
It is also interesting to note that every lockbacks i own developped some blade play with less use than what my Po3 has seen yet the Po3 is still very tight with a slight feel of rock which is barely felt due to the heavy spring.
I still like the Endura though as i have 2 flat saber ones and ordered a ZDP one and two colored FFG to mix the scales (the ZDP one will get purple scale left, blue right.)
While i dont feel zytel to be cheap, i still wish the g10 deli/endu was still available or even just the scales alone.

I think once i get those 3 Endura the next one will be a SE Po3 ( i'm on the fence for it since 2 years because i fear that they finally drop the SE option because of the low sales...)

Pretty much same for me. I like the P3 enough to have bought a spare when they discoed the G10 Endura thinking the P3 would be next. So far no knife in existence has bumped the Endura I've carried since 92 ( now up to VG10, FRN FFG version). Numerous knives have carried with the Endura but none instead of it.

I wonder where I might find a reasonably priced Endura 4 Foliage Green G10? (I would also love the same in a Delica)
I found one, but while I was on the fence it was sold :(
