Need to get my Spyderench fixed

#1

Post by brad »

I've done the bone head move and snapped off about 3/8" of the blade. DOH! I've emailed Spyderco asking about a new blade and got a polite email back (albeit about 2 weeks later) saying they will replace it, but no price. Anyone have an idea?

I'm reluctant to send it in though. I worried that I'll get a note with "Sorry we don't make that model anymore, here's an Endura and a pair of Channellocks". With the new model coming out, hopefully this won't happy.

I've had Spydercos for years, since their introduction and have been through 3 Renches (gave one to my dad, second one was stolen and now the third is broken).

Brad,

Welcome to the Forum.

Looking at my <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Rench I think the blade can be easily replaced and I'll bet there are spare parts to do it. I'd try it. If it couldn't be fixed you can surely get it back.

Wow, somebody that has or ever had three of them.

Cheers,

Jaxon

I emailed Mike from Spyderco about it so hopefully somehow it will get fixed.

I thought about trying to find a knife maker here in Houston to regrind it to something cool. We'll see.

I got my first Rench when they first came out. I got the first one at the local shop and have had one ever since.

Thanks for the reply!

By all means, send the 'Rench back to Spyderco. I did the same thing a year or so ago, and they sent it back to me with a note saying they "reground" the blade. It had a new blade on it. I'm betting they have lots of spare parts around (or did), and as stated, the blade on this model is pretty easy to change from the look of it.

Cool. I'll get it in the mail tomorrow or so.

Now, I just have to wait until the '04 model comes out.

Brad,

Same issue with my Spyderwrench. My son managed to snap the tip off on mine one afternoon in the garage ... ARGHHHH.. I just got it back from Spyderco with the brand spanking new unscratched blade. Send that bad boy in to Mike Hayes. He'll fix you up.
