Spyderco paramilitary 2

New poster here, as of now I have a tenacious and a endura 4 ffg, I am seriously considering purchasing a paramilitary 2, does anyone have any feedback on this knife?

The PM2 is very popular for sure, for good reason. Only down side is they are like chips, you wont be able to stop with one. :D

Oh there are plenty of haters out there but you won't find THAT many on here. There are plenty of people who just don't care for it, but that doesn't mean it's a bad knife at all. I personally have grown away from them and towards the Manix 2, but that's not to say the Para is bad at all, I just have preferences.

It's probably my all time favourite knife, and I think that the standard S30V version is the best knife on the market for the money, by any manufacturer. It's simply amazing...I carry my CTS-204P version more than any of my other 38 Spydercos.

I'm afraid I'm one of those haters. I had two of these plus a Junior and traded or sold all three because of the compression lock. I hate that lock because it pinched the crap out of my hand every time I opened a knife with it and I will never own another although I love Spyderco knives. I also feel the PM2 has a bad blade to handle ratio and is unnecessarily bulky for the size blade. I found myself to be much better served with the Caly 3.5 . Oh forgot to mention too much knife sticking out of your pocket also unless you go to some after market deep carry clip

Neither of my PM2's has ever pinched me...I guess it depends on your individual hands and grip etc.

Just that it's the finest, IMO, folder that Sal has ever produced. I've had many, in many flavors, and they just cannot be beat. The compression lock is just plain fun to play with.

Welcome to the forum and good choice on the PM2, it's a great knife. One word of caution though, it is one of Spyderco's most popular knives and there are very many really good quality fakes out there, especially on ebay. So good that unless you really know what an authentic one looks like (angle of jimping, compression lock variances, etc), you'll more than likely get fooled. My recommendation would be to buy one from a reputable dealer. There are quite a few people who've been burned with fakes. Check out the Spyderco Fakes and Knockoffs Info thread over on Blade Forums (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showt ... -Offs-Info" target="_blank) and you'll see how bad the situation is.

As others have said this is one of the finest, most refined designs that Spyderco have produced - literally a father and son design!

There's a couple of things that I have found about this piece that make it one of my less caried knives:

1. I find the butt end of the knife (where the lanyard hole is) to be quite 'blocky' when compared to say a Stretch or Endura. This means that if you carry tip up it takes up more space in your pocket opening than would the other designs. This is something to bear in mind if you are buying the knife for EDC.

2. The compression lock - I would strongly advise handling this knife before buying it to see if you like the way the lock works. Hand geometry is always a factor in how a knife feels and this lock is great for some, hopeless for others. The way the blade drops free when the lock is released and the lack of a self-close (compared to a backlock) are factors to consider.

3. The knife has a 14mm opening hole which is great for opening but does take up more space in your pocket - again, this may or may not be a factor, depending on what type of trousers you wear.

Haters....hmm...don't listen to them.It is a great knife.The only thing I should improve is the blade/handle ratio(a shorter and more refined handle).But still a great knife.

If it wasn't for the workplace, my Para 2's would get MUCH more carry time. I've never been pinched by a Para 2, but have had that happen occasionally with the Yo2. For me, the Para 2 is an icon in the knife world. Light, strong, easily cleaned and maintained with the pillar construction. Also safe for hands and fingers. A true classic......thanks Sal,Eric, and all the crew at Spyderco.

negative? Abosolutely, they are always sold out. That is for a good reason. You might have to pull the trigger on a military during your search. The knife is elusive. I saw one a few years back and failed to pull the trigger. I have since purchased many other spydercos in my hunt, but no PM2. Granted, I have been trying to get one at Blade HQ, near my house. If you see it, buy it quickly.

Lots of folks love the Para Military 2, I'm one of the minority that doesn't. Probably because, for me, the Stretch is as close to perfection as a 3.5" folder is likely to get. The Stretch is 100% hand neutral, feels perfect in my hand, fits it like a glove, packs its 3.5" blade into a 4.4" handle, and, while that blade could be thinner, .125" isn't all that bad. Contrast that with the PM2 that pairs a handed lock with slightly shorter blade, considerably thicker, blade and a significantly longer, overly bulky, handle that feels totally unnatural.

Great knife indeed. I used the Para 1 a lot years ago in helping me build my house, it was a great value.(still have it)
Had a Para 2, sold it after a while. I don't need a knife with that large a handle anymore.
If you are a tall person you would have room for a handle that long, I don't :D .

I really like my PM2 but as mentioned above, many don't like the ratio of blade to handle size. Admittedly I'm in that camp as well. I wish the ratio was closer to 1:1 like the Caly 3 and 3.5. I'll probably always keep my PM2 but to be honest I haven't really EDC'd it much since getting my ZT0566 last November.
